Saint Anthony Cathedral Basilica
Modeled after the 13th Century level Basilica of San Clemente in Rome, this beautiful church was designed by a local architect and features wood, marble, and columns from around the world. San Clemente Basilica is one of the oldest, if not the oldest, Catholic church in the world. The first level of San Clemente dates back to Saint Clement, 3rd Pope after St. Peter, the second level of this Roman Basilica dates back to the 6th century and the third level dates back to 13th Century. Saint Anthony is not a relica of the Basilica of Saint Paul's Outside the Walls in Rome. In July 2006 St. Anthony Cathedral was named a Minor Basilica by Pope Benedict XVI.
The rededicated cathedral of St. Anthony draws breath from any local or foreign caller. Justly fted are its revived mosaics, the frescos, the white dove descending from its duomo, the Latin scripted Beatitudes... all entrancing, all alive with color once again.
