An absolutely great course -- don't miss it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/01/08
The holes have hints of famous golf holes but are fit into a really unusual environment for West Texas; great shaping around craggy creek crossings and actual elevation changes -- surprisingly beautiful setting. A total surprise. The greens are great, and well contoured. The collection areas and greens actually do remind one of Augusta and a other famous holes. I can see where someone having an off day might find it challenging -- don't miss the fairways. Don't know why this place is not on all the magazine lists of best places to play -- it should be.

this is definitely the best golf course in abilene. every time i have been, it has been well maintained and just beautiful. staff is not too friendly but you only have to deal with them for a few moments and then get to go out and enjoy the beautiful golf course for hours. love it!

College Golf Fanatic
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/27/08
I loved the course personally. I am at college at ACU having traveled over here from England. The Diamondback golf club in Abilene reminds me of courses I have played in Portugal, Spain and parts of France. I've played Kingsbarns in Scotland where they have the Dunhill Classic and all but the Old Course at St. Andrews. I've played The Belfry where they've had the Ryder Cup multiple times too. Diamondback is a high quality course, and for just $50 at weekends, you cannot complain. The greens are quick and undulating but roll true. I was pleasantly surprised by this tough little course. I've recommended it to my dad and brother, who are coming over to visit me in the coming months and I will definitely be playing here as long as I am in school in Abilene. Top notch.

A very good course
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/17/07
I've played many of the more noted golf courses around the country and Diamondback in Abilene is a surprising gem -- a truly fine golf course. The greens are wonderful challenges with interesting contour. They are well maintained, and can be quite quick. You are presented with a broad range of shot selection, including some surprising terrain, and carries over canyon-like creeks. The fairway turf is outstanding. The ball sits up for fine shot making. The holes are each unique and anything but boring. This is a real golf course, and, from the back tees, a true test of all areas of your game. I'm not easily impressed, but this course is well worth the time to go play it.

great west tx course
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/07
I am from the Dallas area but go to school out here in Abilene. I play golf 2-3 times a week and diamond back is always one of the courses. The course is in great shape and it is just a great place to place some golf. The course is challengeing but not to hard and the greens and fairways are playing amazing. I tell everyone that is visiting Abilene to play there if they are in the mood for golf.

great course, some rude staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/10/07
Some of the staff is rude and act as if you are not welcome. I do play there alot because the course is great. It is high priced, but with some good customer service it would be well worth the money and I would play there alot more. Regular player in Abilene, Shady Oaks, and Hawley.

Going to have a wedding golf outing here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/12/07
I'm from Houston and play golf a lot. I've played probably 70 courses in the Houston area, courses all over Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, California and Myrtle Beach. There are a only a few courses I would put in the top tier. Diamondback is one I would put in the top of the second tier. You've got to remember this is West Texas, not Augusta. For the money, it's as good as it gets. The guy who complained about the price hasn't played many courses outside of Abilene. I've played it twice and love the rugged West Texas terrain. I like it so much I'm setting up a golf tournament there on the day of my Abilene wedding. And the people are extremely nice there.

I can't believe I spend my money here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/26/06
I thought the course was below average. The staff inside the golf shop were very rude and didn't care about my concerns. The condition of the course was not very good. The guy's from arkansas where right, this is a bad place to play. Abilene is my hometown, and i'm ashamed to have this course here. They should destroy it and put cattle on it.

A Hidden Treasure
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/25/06
This course is championship caliber and most unusual find for West Texas. The overall experience is as good as any you will find anywhere except for the most exotic locations. It is challenging but fun. The gripes from Arkansas, well, must have had a bad golf day.

Diamonds

This is the best course in west texas by far that I have played. The course is usually in good shape and well taken care of especially for abilene. You usually can get a good deal out there as well.
