Tuckaleechee Caverns, Inc., Townsend

Toured Tuckaleechee Caverns today. It is an incredible place. I could not believe how big these caverns were. An awesome place to visit. Our tourguide was Houston Thomas. He was very knowledgable and very friendly. I highly recommend Tuckaleechee Caverns in Townsend, TN.

This place was absolutely amazing! It almost felt as though you were on another planet or in a dream. The pictures shown really are unable to capture the true wonder of it all. I plan to bring all my family next time!

One of the best caves I have ever seen in the Eastern U.S. Our tour guide Zach was fabulous. He really made the tour come alive. Will be back anytime we get in the Smokey Mountain area!! A MUST SEE!!!!!!

Friendly staff, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. Answered all questions, never got short or bored with a 9 year old's never ending questions. Beautiful cave, amazing actually, a lot of fun. We go to the Smokey's to see the beauty of the park, not for the commercialism of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, the cave is right in Townsend where we stay for the peace and quiet of the Smokey's. If that is what you are into, its a must for your trip!

The caverns were really awesome! They are a must see if you are anywhere close to this area-- I would say it was one of the best parts of our stay in Townsend. The guide Brittany was very knowledgeable, and gave everyone plenty of time to observe and take pictures.Definitely worth a visit! I would avoid this trip if you have children that are unruly(i'd say 8+ would be okay), or if you are unable to maneuver in small spaces. We were really surprised that they don't make you sign a safety waiver. But we all got out of there safely and impressed!

We just came back from visiting Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We spent an afternoon touring these caverns when the weather wasn't the greatest outside, but actually any time would be great. The directions were easy to follow, the guide was knowledgeable and the caves beautiful. The Big Room and Underground Beach were terrific. The water is fresh enough to drink! We had a group of ten and everyone enjoyed themselves, even the person who was scared to go inside! It is a totally different experience than the commercial areas of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

First the dislike you see great big signs advertising the caverns and which direction to go.But once you get on the road there is little signs giving directions I about missed our turn.Now for the good the price is very reasonable the cave is beautiful a true hidden gem of the smokies.The tour guide an older gentlemen was very knowledgeable and answered the questions fully.I would recommend this to anyone

This cave is absolutely amazing. Our guide was a geology major at the University of Tennessee and extremely knowledgeable. The best part about the tour was being able to have a real conversation with the guide (not to say the rest of the cave wasn't phenomenal).

We were very excited about visiting the caverns on our trip to Pigeon Forge, so we visited the web site to get pricing info, schedule, contact information, etc. We called the number on the web page to get directions, but there was no answer and no useful information on the answering machine. We decided to make the 30 minute or so drive anyway and only discovered after getting there that the caverns were closed until March (this was in February). There was nothing on the web site to inform potential visitors of this, and nothing on the answering machine. Don't bother unless you talk to a living person because you can't get info anywhere else.

We just returned from Gatlinburg, and when asked what was our favorite part of our trip, we all agreed that it was the cave in Townsend! Even my 5 year old enjoyed it the most out of the entire trip, and we'd even been to the Ripley's Aquarium as well. I've been in a few caves myself, but this one was by far the most magnificent in beauty and uniqueness. The history of the cave and the stories that the guides shared really made the experience even better. The waterfall and the open view at the end, once the lights were turned on in that specific area, were my 2 favorites. I wanted to stay in the cave and joked about cool it would be to camp out there. The "wishing well" was inspirational too, especially knowing that money tossed into it is donated to the Knoxville Children's Hospital. What a truly, loving gesture that is and speaks highly of the owners. I would recommend making this trip to Townsend when visiting the Smokey Mountains. It made our trip even more of an enjoyable one!
