English Mountain Dragway, Newport

I am new at drag racing. I had never been to a drag strip in my life until David took me to EMD on our first date in August 2007. I was automatically hooked and I knew someday I would be out there on that track. Here it is July 2008 and I've already won my first trophy! It was 2nd place, but it was a huge excitement to me! It was my 5th race. It really saddens me to think that EMD may not be anymore if it gets sold to the wrong person. I can't see myself racing at any other track. I feel comfortable at EMD. All of the other racers make me feel welcome and comfortable. I've never had a problem out of anybody. All of the staff is AWESOME and the food is good. The atmospehere is great for children. I love it there. I am the first to say "are we going racing this weekend?". I would love to see the track bought by someone that can fix it up a little and I would love to see more cars come to race. No matter what happens, EMD will always be part of my stories to my grandchildren someday (did I really say "grandchildren!") It will always be one of my favorite places to be!

as i sit here and read these reviews it brings back alot of good memories . I started racing at emd in 1994 won the very first race that he put on (footbrake class) .there must have been aleast 200 cars there that night ,the race was over at 3.00am that morning all my friends had all ready left ,but i will never forget that first win . Since that time i have been very lucky to win many other races and meet many more freinds over that time.going to the track didnt mean (going to 411 rogersville or bristol) there was only one track .my son grew up there helping me and later also raced some there .i guess the thing i miss most is all our em family that would come and hang out at our camper after the race . A few years ago i did every thing in my power to help em survive mid life crisis ,and alot of close friends (emd family) racers also went above and beyond to get the crowd back and we did for awhile .one of my buddies big boy as i call him ,and his heart is as big as he is has asked me several times to go back to emd and try to get some others to go, but i have kinda pushed that idea away , but as i read these articles it brings back so many memories ,that i proably will if he asked again ,and would do everything all over again to help john if he asked in the hopes of getting our home back so someone else needs to leave some feedback .and finally bobo misses you all

I HAVE ALOT OF MEMORIES FROM EMD I IT WAS THE FIRST TRACK I EVER WON A RACE AT AND I HOPE IT WILL BE THE PLACE I WIN MY LAST AT I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH ANYONE THERE I ALWAYS LEAVE THERE LOOKING FORWARD TO EXT WEEKEND JUST TO COME BACK HOME ALL I NO IS THAT ME,MY DAD,AND MY UNCLE ARE ALL LOOKING FORWARD TO BEING THERE EVERY TIME THE GATES OPEN

I would like to say that I've raced at every track around this area,(EMD, Knox, Bristol, 411 & Cherokee). I must say that EMD is the ONLY track that makes you fill welcome and at home with family and friends from day one. My family are die-hard racers, they were at the track EVERY time the gate opened. My children were raised at EMD and now are grow and race themselves. They have grown-up with alot of love and support from the EMD FAMILY and for this I am forever greatful. I would not trade the Mountain for ANY other track around. With that said I would also like to say that I too wish that John would keep the Mountain opened and sanctioned, but as a member of the Mountain FAMILY I know that ALL the FAULtT DOES NOT belong to John Mckinney. There are the racers out there and you know who you are, that did nothing but grip and belly-ache. This track was not put together overnight and can not be rebuilt overnight. It will take alot of support from the racers to show John that we really do love EMD and want to keep it going. With that in mind understand that John is not Jesus Christ and perfect but nor are you. I would like to say THANK YOU to John for the years he gave us at EMD and hope he can FORGIVE all those who complained and give us a chance to build OUR HOME back up. KEEP IN MIND IT WILL TAKE EVERYONES HELP, and if it does sell I hope the new owner loves racing like we do. My family will be racing at the Mountain again this year. Last year we raced at Knoxville and Cherokee as well as EMD, but I must say that there is no place like HOME.

Those were the good old days at the track. Staging lanes were backed up into the bottleneck. Everybody was having fun,ONE BIG HAPPY FAMILY! We would love to see that again. Bracket finals,no one needed anything.Because some part of the family was standing there waiting to hand it to them.Racers,fans,friends & family - AWSOME!!! We started racing there in 96. We want to go home. I hope that someone has the money to buy it and start fresh.I know the racers will be there. Build it,they will come!!!!!!!!!

I like the reviews I've read so far.Had to add mine to the list also. Hopefully someone will take notice. There were both good and bad times at EMD through the past 12 years or so, But by far, more good than bad. My heart is at the Mountain, always was and alwsys will be. As far as Cherokee, the only complaint from me is that you can't see down the track as a spectator. The Owner and operaters are great.

this is a track that a total stranger can come and be loved by all every member is the most caring in every aspect if you break down and even need a part to get back in a race 9xout of 10 if we have it it will be on your car by the next round our children have a blast also they have a place to play racers have one too you can see everything anywere you park we dont want to lose our track so if you are a current racer who left home please let all personal issues with owner or any other reasons be forgotten we are great together we need this track to stay alive it is our home to all new racers you are more than welcome to join us you will never find another or better place to be

if you are reading this,then your obviously interested in EMD.I am and i miss it.So i am going to talk to my buddies and there buddies until i turn blue in the face about coming back.I know its not (perfect)but face it no other track or owner is (perfect) IF more & more of us would come together and race there maybe it will get better or someone will buy it.There Is no promises in life.If you could talk to your buddies that would be GREAT!!Remember the more cars the more money.But remember its not just about the money its about fun,friends,family,bragging rights,and most important (memories) So lets start talking!!!

I have been a part of the "Mountain Family" for about 13 years. I love the track, the owner and the people who work and race there. We are a close knit racing family and will continue to race there if it stays open. I hope someone will buy the track and get it back to what it used to be. To all our former racers...We miss you and would love to have a Racin' Reunion in the near future.

there is no other track laid out as good as this one for the racer and for the fan. I wish someone could buy it and keep it alive.Ive had so many good times there with my mom dad wife daughter and friends that i think of as family.Im not putting down on any other tracks but there is no comparison. Me and my dad would get upset from time to time about silly things and we was not the only ones.But overall you cant beat the (MOUNTAIN)
