Established in 1960, this Gatlinburg Tradition was the first pancake house in Tennessee and features delicious pancakes, breakfast items served all day, gourmet sandwiches, soups, and sandwiches. They are open daily for breakfast and lunch.
I've been vacationing to Gatlinburg every year since 1984 and have been to the pancake pantry over 100 times. The pancake pantry is different from all other restaurants. Their food is amazing! Yes, expect a line out the door. Yes, have all your party available when seated. (they have to do this policy because people have been known to shop the strip for a while) If you don't visit this place you are missing out big time. Their omelets melt in your mouth and their chocolate chip pancakes with peanut butter syrup is to die for....
We go to Gatlinburg every year and eat breakfast at the Pancake Pantry everyday. My favorite pancake was the potato pancake. It has been replaced with a sweet potato pancake. If they would put it back on the menu I would give more than 5 stars.
Who in Gatlinburg doesn't take Credit Cards? Instead you have to use their ATM to take out money, with a service charge. Make sure you have plenty of cash if you decide to go. The food wasn't that great for all the hype, and wait staff was poor. The only reason we ate here was because gas was shut off at the other breakfast places around and this was the only ones who could make pancakes besides McDonalds. I think I'll take my chances at McDonalds next time.
I've been visiting Gatlinburg and eating at the Pancake Pantry for nearly 30 years, and the quality of food and service has remained exceptional throughout. On any weekend, you will find people lined up into The Village waiting to get a table.... and believe me it's really that good!
Delicious breakfasts - be sure to get the French Toast or the Morning Star - and unusual sandwiches - ever tried a hamburger with green pepper and bananas??
I wish Yahoo! offered 6 stars :)
The only place I ever eat breakfast while in Gatlinburg! The menu choices are vast, but there is a favorite flavor for everyone! I usually stick to the standard fare with eggs bacon and hasbrowns and of course with a side of pancakes. A beautiful building, however can be quite noisy and the tables are very close together! Go early (you can park on the street in front until 8) becuase you will have to wait in line! Service is usually very good most of the time better the earlier you go.
Can't understand what the fuss is all about. Their seating policy needs work. They need to make it clear to the customers that if you have several people in your party all of them must be present in order to be seated. Our wait on that cold morning was quite long and my daughter need to find a restroom. She went to the one in the Village next door to the resturant and because she hadn't come back when the hostess called for us we were skipped over and had to fall back in the line again. This caused us another 45 min. wait and only when we complained to the hostess were we seated. The resturant was crowded and we felt hurried to eat and leave. Not worth it!!!
After reading several reviews on this website and others like it, my family and I just had to try the Pancake Pantry and see what all the fuss was about. Boy, we were disappointed! We didn't have to wait in line to get in (which was nice) but after being seated and having our drink order taken, it took forever to get a waitress back over to order our food. We all decided to order pancakes. I chose the old standby buttermilk, my wife had the apple-walnut, and my daughter had the chocolate chip pancakes. They were good pancakes, but that's all. They were good. I could've gotten them at IHOP or Cracker Barrel or any other restaurant that serves breakfast and they would've been just as good and at half the price. Our bill came to $33.00!!! Just way overpriced...
The best pancakes you'll ever eat. My only suggestion is to get there early because the wait can get long. If you do have to wait you can watch the taffy being made in the window next to the Pancake Pantry. I also remember the omelettes are pretty good too.
For pancakes only this is a great place. The service was lacking, somewhat rude. The tables are so close together, you cannot enjoy your meal. Very loud. Everything except pancakes were over cooked. It was WAY over priced for breakfast, $32 for two. Very disappointing experience considering the reviews. I would not go back!!
