we must put an end the expansion of the drunken biker orgy. many of these peop0le have no reguard for life. let alone land... this is very sacred ground. now they want to build a huge biker bar. with a giant statue of a native american in prayer. the name of the bar....... "Sacred ground".
We visited Bear Butte in May. It's really a lone mountain, not a butte, that's very sacred to the Lakota. It's a beautiful, quiet place. We took the trail to the top, but it was quite a trial with two small children. In some places it was very easy walking, in others extremely rocky with a sharp drop-off. Junior-high age kids and older wouldn't have problems with it. Our big excitement was the rattlesnake that revealed itself right by my foot. Other than almost having a heart attack and nearly plowing down my husband in an effort to get away from it, it was a peaceful walk. It went on its own way, and we continued ours (although I was very vigilant after that!).
It will take a couple of hours to complete the trail. We were fortunate to be there when some American Indians were on top of the mountain. We could here their chants in the quietness as we climbed. If you go, be respectful, quiet, and watchful!
