Windy Hill Orchard

When my family came up to visit my brother and me at Winthrop last year for Family Weekend, we all went to this orchard and had tons of fun! While we were there, we saw a Girl Scout troop on a field trip as well as families with young children. They all looked like they were having a blast. We ate some of the best donuts I've ever tasted and brought home some delicious apples, apple butter, and apple sauce.

We took an educational tour expecting to hear the story of Johnny Appleseed, and sunflower maze, apple cider, apple donuts, all that we had read about on the web. None of the above was provided!! We drove an hour for the field trip and all we got was sent to the trees to pick a bag of apples and we were done. We will not do this ever again!!!

My family goes everytime we go into the area during the fall. We really enjoy the atmosphere, the frozen apple cider ( awesome!!), the best apple pie (almost as good as my gramma made), and the apple donuts are amazing... and the pumpkin butter is great as well!

A friend and I visited Windy Hill Orchard with our children one weekday afternoon. Johnny Appleseed and his family were less than friendly. In fact, they were extremely rude. They yelled at our children and would not allow them to touch anything. We were not allowed into the sunflower maze either. We were not part of a big group and "the show" wasn't on. Look at the apple orchard, but don't touch it, or the apples, or the sunflowers, or the pumpkins, or the livestock. Just give them your money and leave quietly.

My family visits this orchard every fall. This year we picked apples and took a hayride. If you go you must try the Apple Cider Donuts!!!!!

We loved the little speech from the guy dressed as Johnny Appleseed, the sunflower "maze", the hayride, and the absolutely delicious cider and doughnut we got (free) at the end of the ride. We are going back next weekend!
