Croft State Park
This very large 7,054 acre State Park features two lakes and offers a variety of recreational amenities and activities such as equestrian and hiking trails, stables and a horse show ring, camping facilities, fishing, a boat launch, a store, swimming pool, tennis courts, and picnic areas. Cultural aspects of the park include the remnants of a Native American soap store quarry that was used for bowl making and is registered as a Heritage Trust Site.
In looking up this park on the internet we thought it would be different than it was. We saw that it had a pool and we reserved a "lake front site". The price was reasonable as well.
When we arrived the park was very well kept, nice rangers, lots of horses. The site was nice, but you could only see the lake through the trees, no pool or swimming areas for the kids. There wa a nice playground. The bath houses were old and kind of creepy.
It was an o.k. trip. If you had horses there was a lot to see and do. We had kids though, not horses.
Great family orientated park. Camped there 3 times all three times were great. We have
stayed in both campgrounds. The Park is very
clean, with friendly staff. Always some horses there for the horsey set. Walking trails and bike trails. Very peaceful and
quiet. Not for the Party crowd! But very
family friendly. Oh, did I forget about the
beautiful lake for fishing? So clean you can
watch the fish clean your hook. Alas not all
got away though and they tasted great on the
Very nice campground, even though we don't like leaving our horses so far away, but understand why we have to. Road to barn is a bit narrow for big trucks and trailers, especially around the curve, but we manage. Would be great if we were allowed to set up, then ride or walk our horses to the barn. This would eliminate some hardship. Good trails; very scenic. Have always recommended this horseback riding area to other equestrians. Would like to see more trails added. Rangers are always nice and helpful.
