Cap'n Rod's Lowcountry Plantation Tours, Georgetown

My friend and I heard about Cap'n Rods tour so we contacted him. He took his time answering my questions and since we were looking for shells he suggested the best time to go based on our schedule and the moon phase. It was the best time I had in a long time. Cap'n Rod is extremely knowledgeable about the area and plantation homes. He shared a lot with us about the history of the area during the Civil War. We could have brought back more shells and sponges and driftwood and starfish, but our 4 beach bags were full. I would not hesitate to recommend this tour and will certainly suggest it all of my company that comes to visit. If you miss this you've missed out. We went on this tour for our 30th wedding anniversery on 06.08.11. and we had a wonderful time listening to Capn Rod tell his stories about the plantations and other stories. We saw dolphins, bald eagles nests and the island was unbelievable. It was beautiful and so many shells and just beautiful scenary. We will be taking this tour each time that we return to the beach. We took Capt. Rod's Lowcountry Tour; this was a large pontoon boat tour to an island for shelling then sailing back and viewing several plantations from the boat. He related a lot of history of the area in the 3 1/2 hour tour. We paid $22.50 per person (we had a 10% off coupon); this is an excellent value. Highly recommended.

I have gone on this tour several times. It is the most enjoyable experience I have had on the water. Captain Rodney knows the history of everything in Georgetown. Highly Reccomend!!!

On Friday, August 18, we went on a boat ride from Georgetown, SC on Captain (Cap'n.) Rod's boat from the bay at Georgetown 14 miles out to a barrier island, stopped there for an hour and a quarter and walked around the island searching for seashells. Most of us found some nice shells. On the way back Cap'n Rod told us about the history of the area, about the plantations, etc. He pointed out dolphins, bald eagles, golden eagles, pelicans and other birds. If you go, make sure you wear your bathing suit as the swimming there is also wonderful, and the best shells are found in the water. Can't wait to go again next summer!
