Hobcaw Barony was perfect for a horseback ride!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/14/11
My husband, a friend and I visited Hobcaw Barony by horseback. The land and trails were well kept and maintained. We even saw some boars crossing the trail. The large homes were absolutely beautiful. We often commented during the ride if those trees could only talk what stories could be told. We truly enjoyed the trails and plan to return with a larger group of horseback riders because only "5" were riding that day on this magnificent estate. More people need to enjoy this amazing place and go back in history for a few hours. Absolutely wonderful! We would love to camp overnight if it were available.

What a wonderful place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/7/07
Hobcaw Barony is a unique view into the South Carolina lowcountry of yesterday. It is 17000 acres which, thanks to the Baruch Foundation, has been preserved and where a visitor can see what the area was like hundreds of years ago. No hamburger joints, no hotels, no neon signs.....just pristine beach, marsh, pine forest and river lands with some history thrown in for good measure. SC's major universities have labs located on the property where marine and ecological research is done. Three-hour tours are reasonably priced at $20 for adults (need reservations); the tour guides are passionate about all aspects of the property and very knowledgeable. Only negative is the mosquitoes although of course folks had to deal with them 200 years ago too! Take plenty of bug repellant. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the Myrtle Beach/Georgetown, SC area.
