St. Peter's Catholic Church, Columbia

Beautiful old building but not so great a worship experience. The intense echoing off the stone walls made the Mass and sermon virtually unintelligible (even with what appears to be a state-of-the-art sound system). I followed along as best I could with the Worship Aid but it was confusing at best. The experience was not helped by a screeching organ and a singing diva who couldn't hit her high notes properly. One real positive though: the congregation was a real melting pot, young and old, black and white, and I truly felt welcomed as a visitor.

I am trying out Catholic churches in Columbia and I'm finding that so far they are very stiff and stodgy. The mass I attended was led by a priest from Africa and he was virtually unintelligible. I really got nothing out of the mass becuase of the language barrier. They had a massive pipe organ that actually hurt my ears. The interior of the church is beautiful but I just didn't feel connected. The songs were all old school which I know some prefer but when I go to mass I like songs that I can connect to which is difficult with a hymn that is 200 years old. My search continues.

This is such a nice place to worship. The priest are so nice and deliver a good message. The people who worship there are so friendly and inviting. St. Peter's offers a very good atmosphere for all to come worship. They even have a bilingual mass for the spanish speaking commuunity

loving god, and doing so in a communal environment is necessary. jesus, requires a presence of two or more. this church is good for such a purpose.
