The best library!
I am completely surprised that there is only one five-year-old review of the library on here. RCPL goes above and beyond other libraries. Columbia is not really a large city, but the library easily can be compared to those in large urban areas.
The building itself is very nice, cool, well-lit, and well-maintained and is very interesting from an architectural standpoint as well. The children's floor is very nicely arranged and has a Maurice Sendak theme. If I had kids, I would gladly take them to the many story-telling events the library does frequently.
I find they get new books on a very regular basis. I currently am checking out Aimee Bender's The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake, which just came out a couple of months before the library bought copies... very cool.
The library also offers career help like resume-writing and interviewing classes as well as classes for helping ESL speakers learn to speak English better. I've not been to any of these classes but I am impressed that they are offering them, because they are clearly useful and are completely free.
For being a completely free service, RCPL has not once let me down yet and I'll be happy to continue going there as long as I live here!
