Don't bother with buying a season pass!
By L, 08/31/09
I bought a season pass for 2009, which turned out to be a huge mistake. I only went once when I was able to use it for a whole day. The second time, we got there at 4:00 and were greeted with a sign saying that the park would close at 4:00 due to a bad weather forecast. So, we went there for no reason and had to turn around and drive right home in rush hour traffic. Also, it remained bright and sunny for hours after 4:00, so I thought their stated reason was fishy. I called them later and they told me the real reason for closing was that they did not have enough lifeguards. Well, I don't appreciate being lied to, or not being able to use my season pass for no good reason, or having to waste time and fuel. The next time I went, I carefully checked their website and called their office to make sure it would be open, but to no avail. When we arrived, we were told they had just decided to close 2 hours early because there weren't enough people to justify keeping it open. This, without any notice whatsoever. So, we were there for an hour. Then, we went to the Sandbar, and I was denied alcohol because I have an out-of-state driver's license which for some reason they entered onto a computer registry. The bartender then informed me that the computer displayed me as underage and there was nothing they could do. I have never had this happen before, because I have a valid unexpired license that shows my birth date as 1984. Of course, I was not surprised, because by then it was clear that Sandcastle is managed completely incompetently and not with the patron in mind at all. The bottom line: a season pass is not worth your money because management will close the park at a whim if they are not turning enough profit. Horrible.

season holder
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/03/08
I was very disappointed that a lot of select water slides were closed because there wasnt enough staff to staff all the rides.....I ask is this fair? a good reason? I dont think it is....Also, many of the employees complained that many of the life guards were "fired" leaving not enough life guards to keep all the rides open at the end of the season....i think it was very wrong that management and website tried to cover it up by saying that the rides were solely closed b/c a lot of the life guardes were going back to school....This was wrong...Management and supervisors should have found a way to either solve the problems or find a way to get life guards so season holders and the public couldnt benefit from all the rides....I personally feel that season card holders should get a discount rate....a personal invation to get season passes cheaper...40.00 season passes.. You have the season card holders names and addresses....However, do i think that the CEO will read this email review? or take the suggestion of this writer? of course not....Management wasnt worried about closing rides, firing life guards, and not caring about the public who went to the sandcastle in hoping to get the priveledge of riding ALL THE RIDES FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON.. I believe when a season holder bought their passes...they didnt buy partial passes...or partial rides. also, why doesnt the sandcastle have water showes in the river?...more live bands? and what are the plans for new plans/rides for 2009? Im looking to see how this email is handled...it wasnt ALL CAPS, off-topic or irrelevant, personal attacks or personal information..... I think if every season holder gets a 40.00 season pass for next year, an apology for not having all the rides open for the entire season, upcoming plans in 2009 for new rides, ideas, and water shows.... my email is already posted...via sending this email.... Does the CEO care? management care? hopefully, this email will be taken seriously, and the suggestions and recommendations will be too. Atmosphere/value rating was related to the end of the season where rides were being closed for not having enough staff to keep them all open. and the waterpark needs to be opened on weekends...for the waterslides... would be nice to have at least one restrauant....like kennywood... hope all the feedback and suggestions/comments are appreciated.... also, offer some raffles for season pass holders...once a week drawing...for a free pass for the following year...for either the sandcastle, kennywood, and idlewild....More promotions are needed to promote the sandcastle, and get more people there. (some days that i was there it was pretty emptied for the size of the waterpark). thanks for allowing me to send this review....Bob B.

Fun for the Whole Family
By Bo, 07/23/07
Sandcastle Water Park was a lot of fun for our entire family. Our youngest (age 3) was too small for many of the waterslides, but loved the Tad Pool & Wet Willie's, where he could splash, slide & play while big brother (7) & dad did some of the slides. We all loved the Lazy River, a nice chance to relax after a meal or to rest our tired feet. The Wave Pool, which we did on our way out of the park, was a really interesting experience. Like being in the ocean without worrying about getting sand in your bathing suit! It was tiring, though; the waves are relentless for 10 minutes & by the time the session was over, I felt like I had had a workout! All in all, a nice park. Clean; decent food at not-too-bad prices; fun rides. I have to say, though, that the employees were kind of surly, for the most part. Still, we would go back.

Worth the travel time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/06
They made the area directly as you come in to the wave pool non-smoking, so if you want to smoke, you have to go all the way around to the other side of the pool by the railroad tracks. It would be nice to see the lazy river have a little more excitement to it like some of the other water parks. The river scenery is nice, but it gets a little boring half way through. The gift shop has a LONG way to go. For the most part, the park is nice. These are just my opinions and I have been coming here for a long time. We really miss the burger stand that used to be down by the pool. The food was awesome there.
