This was, definitely one of the most expensive meal my wife and I have ever eaten. That wasn't the problem though. I took my wife there for her birthday, and we were really looking forward to it.
The atmosphere was outstanding, as I really love the Colonial aspect of our area. But, unfortunately that is where our good impressions stopped.
For as much money as we spent, one would think there would have been a little more personal attentin by the wait staff, instead the service was worse than some of the local diners. Half the time we had to signal the waiter several times to get more wine or bread, and then still it would take upwars of several minutes. The food presentation was nice, but taste and quality only par. I ahve had my dishes cleared off the table quicker at Friday's, not to mention that the tables were dirty when we sat down at them. And the faults ca't be blamed on a busy night, as there were only 5-6 table filled when we walked through.
All in all, if we were just going to a local family-type restaraunt (with family-type restaraunt prices) it would have been barely satisfactory. But since this was supposed to be an extremely elegant dining experience (with prices to match), we were greatly dissapointed and won't b returning there.
A truely special occasion dining experience. The service reminds me of attention to detail and patron treatment long lost by most expensive "trendy" restaurants. The food was excellent, and beautifully presented. The quiet atmosphere and beautifully restored setting added to the experience.
We've been dining here for a number of years and this restaurant, now managed by the former management of Vicker's Tavern in Lionville, is an experience not to be missed. From the maitre d'hotel, Michael to the primo chef to the excellent wait staff, all the needs of a diner with discriminating tastes will be met. While it's not on the menu, the chef is always eager to make his famous Veal Medallions in a morel sauce, not to be topped. The food is consistently 4 stars (out of 4) and the variety of menu is superb. An excellent venue for a celebration or an occasion to pamper oneself. The ambience of this historical building is not to be missed.
