Whitaker Center for Science and Arts, Harrisburg

The Whitaker Center is a real treasure for Central Pa area. We have been there many times for concerts, IMAX, and other events. Whatever is going on there is great. Don't worry about parking. It's not hard to find it in Harrisburg.

There are so many things to do in the science center. The top floor has heart/body exhibits and they have an area in the back for 15 min shows geared to children. One show was called "It's Shocking" and the actors were great. The second floor focuses on weather/insects/plants and traveling exhibits. Our favorite floor is the bottom where they have lots of the traditional science center exhibits. They have an area for children under the age of 8 with bristle blocks, puzzles, musical instruments, a large bubble maker, play food and puppets. This area needs updating but my kids still had fun. Unfortunately there is nothing really keeping older kids from coming in the area meant for the younger ones. We have had a membership for two years. We figure it really pays because you get IMAX vouchers. We go at least 3 or 4 times a year.

The Whitaker Center brings a sense of credibility to Harrisburg,PA. It brings forth a gigantic IMAX theatre, science museum for the kids, a great gift shop and above all it brings the Arts to downtown. If you are just passing through to get a grande from the Starbucks, you can always stop and ponder at the curious creations that are sitting in various hallways!
