Newport Tradewinds, Newport

First of all I would like to say the crew on our boat (The Misty) was awesome. They were very helpful, never had an issue fixing things for us, and were actually fun just to hang out with. My thing is we always fish out of Garabaldi, but while booking a last minute trip, tradewinds was the only place that had spots available. (Guess that should have told me something) They were a little cheaper than other charters but now I know why. Everything cost money here. $1 a fish to filllet, $2 if its a lingcod. Dont worry about paying much to carve your fish since our boat of 20 people only caught 4 fish. FOUR FISH TOTAL! I have never been to Garabaldi and came back without my daily limit. I understand fishing is hit and miss, but with a captain doing this since 1987 you would think we would catch more than 4 fish. 2 of which were caught by my mom. The 3 others in our party didnt catch anything. We spent about 1-1.5 hours getting to our spot due to dropping crab pots before hand, then another 1-1.5 coming back collecting crab pots. We only fished for like 2-3 hours. Crabbing wasnt bad as we dropped 12 pots and came back with 104 crab. They were molting though and most we caught were females. Overall for the $250ish I spent for my girlfriend and I, it was the most expensive boat ride I have ever taken. I will definately be booking early next year. In GARABALDI.

For a first trip out salmon fishing, despite poor forecasts, Capt. Dell put us on fish and his deck hand kept us rigged up & fishin'. These fellas are top-knotch. I'll be requesting them for my next trip out...for sure. We had a party of 10 and have kudos all around for Capt. & crew !! FISH ON !! Capt. Dell knows his business. Thank You again~

Been fishing for a lot of years. This was not an enjoyable or professional outfit and they nickled and dimed us to death.

We were new to the salt water salmon fishing thing. If we made a mistake we got yelled at by the captain in a very rude way. A young lady in our boat let her reel backlash a little and the captain started yelling and griping at her in front of everybody as if she was an idiot. They were also in too big of a hurry to fill everybodies limits so they could rush back to shore to get us off the boat so they could pick up other customers.

My wife and I would like to thank all the people at Newport Tradewinds for making our fishing trip awesome. A very special thanks goes out to our Captain Shannon and Ed for doing such a great job of taking us to the fish and showing us a good time in the process. You can bet that we'll be back next year to fish wish all of you. P.S. Ed, Teslie still wants to throw you overboard.

I wanted to say thanks to everybody at Newport Tradewinds and Capt. Dell Wilkison and crew of the Ilwaco Indian. I scheduled my trip before i left home, and when i got to Newport, i stopped in at the office and spoke the lady working. She advised me the day i had scheduleld was forecasted to have rough seas and bad weather, and then suggested i switch and allowed me to rebook my trip for a better day. I had a great trip bottom fishing, and next time we're in Newport, i'll go out with your company again. Keep up the great work.

This is a great place to go. Same owners since 70's and family ran. Repeater every year and can depend on them always! Very informative!

I had never been on the ocean before and I was told that it was ok to bring my three children 3, 7 and 10 year olds onto the boat that they would have a great time. My husband and i did that and it started out fine. When we went over the bar to go into the ocean we sat in the front of the boat going over 14 foot swells. Nobody came and got us we almost fell off the front of the boat and barely made it back to the cabin. For the rest of the trip my children and I sat in the cabing unable to fish because my kids could not stand up out there. My husband fished and caught 2 sea bass, while we watched. We payed 2 full price rates and 2 children half price rates. We did not get refunded or anything for the inablitity to fish on the boat. This company does not inform you of the dangers at sea or where to sit or not to sit or that your children may not be able to be out there. Not made for children, please do not take children out there.
