The Yaquina Bay Lighthouse is a must see in Newport. The lighthouse was closed when we were there but the setting is great. Be sure to go down to the cobble beach and see the seals sunbathing on the rocks. Had to pay $7.00 admission for a car load but it’s worth the cost.
Everyone, young and old should stop and take this tour. Well worth the time and donation. This building was once slated for demolition but is now restored and is a valuable piece of our history. If you like lighthouses you don't want to miss this one!
I thought the cost for entering the Yaquina Lighthouse (5.00=carload) was excellent. You get to see a lot of coast line and walk along the nature trails. The tour of the lighthouse is awesome as well. There are many staff members to help you and answer questions if needed. The Yaquina Lighthouse is also haunted by several ghosts. Many paranormal researchers have visited and investigated and have found proof of the ghostly visitations. If you are ever in Newport, Oregon...I would say check it out.
This is a must see when on the coast. It is very informational and the volunteers are super nice retired people. Run don to the beach below and walk on the rocks leading to the tidepools, it's a cool experience.
This was a very interesting lighthouse with a charming story. The self guided tour is quick, and even though you must climb stairs, it's not as many as most lighthouses. Our only complaint when we were there were the number of families letting their 8-14 year old children run about this old historical building without much supervision. With 3 different staircases and some wobbly senior citizens in the building, it made enjoying the lighthouse more difficult. The workers did their best to keep the kids under control, but there is not much they can do when the parents seem oblivious. Other than that minor annoyance, it was fascinating and the video in the basement (about 13 minutes long) is worth watching. It gives a short history of the Yaquina Head Lighthouse too.
