Sea Lion Caves, Florence

We recently visited the sea lion cave with our granddaughters. Before the visit, I had read some reviews about how bad the place smelled and we almost didn't go. Since the girls wanted to stop, we did and we all liked it. I didn't notice an offensive smell at all and just to see the cave is an experience that I was glad we didn't miss.

My cousin and sister and I went on a road trip and ended up in Florence. We had heard about the Sea lion Cave from my mom and decided to go. What an experience!! The views were absolutely wonderful. The smell was awful but it was a once in a lifetime experience for us. The cave was packed with at least 3 dozen sea lions. I am going back the end of March to take my kids. I would encourage anyone to go!!

I had never been there before and took my son during spring break, he was 17 and we both thought it was great and facinating. Like the idea of it being a self-tour also. I think most likely from what I have read about sea life is the best time to view the sea lions is in the winter and early spring. I agree there maybe should be a reduced fee during times when no lions are present. Its been 4 years since we were there and we are planning a trip back this time with both my son and daughter during their spring break.

We had not idea what this place was all about. Kept hearing about it and seeing signs...decided to take a chance and stopped. Very clean place, expecially the bathrooms. Talked with a couple just returning from the tour and they convinced us to go. Those business owners need to figure out a way to do a better job of conveying what Sea Lion Caves has to offer! What a FANTASTIC natural attraction! And to think we could have drove by, missed it, and not even had known what we had missed! The cave was huge and colorful. The Sea Lions were noisy and fought with each other. Oh my gosh, the smell...I suppose it comes with the territory. The entire experience was well worth the admission, especially since it was self-guided so we could spend as much time as we wanted. The man in the cave was so kind and we learned alot of information that was not available on the movie reel or signs. Ask to see the short movies he has on the computer. If you go, bring a coat...Brrr. Take our word for it (from a cheap skeptic), Sealion Caves is well worth the stop.

We were there on 9/13/08. We did not see any sea lions in the cave. The $10 entrance fee is extremely excessive when we didn't see one lion. I can't believe that they had the nerve to take our money knowing that they weren't in the cave. Total scam! Total waste of time and money!!
