Loved the video with the history, the girt shop was charming, the caretaker quite pleasant, my 6 and 10 year old were ready to live there, really well preserved Oregon History and a good reminder how much money was made on the mighty Columbia
I LOVE TOURING OLD HISTORIC MANSIONS AND MUSEUMS, ON MY HONEYMOON MY HUSBAND AND I TOURED THE CAPT FLAVEL MANSION. I LOVED IT, IT ADDED ALITTLE BIT OF SCARINESS KNOWING THE CAPT AND ONE OF HIS DAUGHTERS DIED RIGHT IN THE HOUSE. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF WE COULD HAVE EXPLORED THE 3RD FLOOR BUT OVERALL WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE.
The Flavel house was very beautiful and full of historic facts. It was very informational, and the grounds were gorgeous. I would recommend visiting if you enjoy historical landmarks and victorian style homes and furnishings.
The Mansion is Humongous!!! Huge!!! Like a public building! What a treat...Docents very nice! Would recommend to all! People actually lived like this...almost hard to believe...We did not want to leave. We are moving to Astoria!!!
The flavel mansion is a trip in time back to an elegant lifestyle. The fourteen foot ceilings are a part of what makes this house feel grand. It is complete with furnishings, carpet, window treatments, art work, and other items typical of the time when the house was a home to the Flavels.
It's hard to get kids interested in a restored old house, but their Mother's Day Tea and Scones and Victorian Fun and Games had my kids interested and enthusiastic to go back.
And I couldn't beat the price, the Fun and Games day was free.
I hear their Christmas Plumb Puddiing Dinner is good too, but I haven't been to it myself yet.
