Black Sheep, Ashland

I've been to the Black Sheep many times. I make it a point to stop in when I'm in Ashland - once or twice a month. This is primarily a pub that serves food. The 'Bangers and Mash' is my personal favorite. Service is generally spotty, but good natured. Not the place to go if you're in a hurry, but they also don't mind if you spend a half hour with a glass of beer or wine and a good book. A very relaxed, fun place to visit in Ashland.

We visited the Black Sheep on 12/31/2006 for dinner. When we walked in there was no hostess and none of the staff pointed us to a table so we sat ourselves. About 1/2 hour after ordering, food was brought for five of the people. We asked where the other three plates were (fish and chips) and they said it was coming. After about another 1/2 hour we flagged down another waitress (no waitresses checked on us) and asked again where the other three plates were. She said they had lost the order and it would be coming shortly. Finally they arrived and the waitress dropped the check on the table. About five minutes later the waitress came by the table and said we needed to leave in 10 minutes because of the two children (8 and 10 years old) with us. I guess they were organizing a New Year's Eve party and needed more space or maybe there's a law we were never told. Anyway, we didn't make any move to pay the check right away. About 10 minutes later the waitress came by and had reduced our bill by $20 (total bill was about $145). This seemed like very trivial compensation for the terrible service but we went ahead and paid and promised to never return. Overall the food was average, but the fish and chips were very greasy.
