I was here in Norman when they opened SNOMNH. It's been 10 years! Lots of great exhibits and hands on things for children. They are ever changing so it's wise to visit the website first to find out what's in store for you. Also they're celebrating their anniversary this year so many deals on admission because of that.
Every year I try to take my kids to do something educational as well as fun for kinda a back to school trip, they loved the Museum as did I. I had never been to anything like it before so I was as much in "aw" as my kids were.
We live about 90 miles from Norman. I took 5 of my grandchildren age ranging from 6 thru 2 1/2 years old and their great grandfather. I had taken several of the them last year and it was their idea to go back.
We always enjoy the museum. The way items are set up for learning and hands on items helped to hold everyone's interest. The arrangement of the museum made it easy to keep up with all the grandchildren.
We especially enjoyed the special items they displayed on the carts. Like the scorpion, lizard, and the snake. The museums employees were very good with the children and held their interest for quit awhile.
There was a lot of learning going on the day we visited the museum. Thank you so much for sharing with my family. We will be back.
When I have visitors, this is where i take them. They are always excited and pleased. I never get tired of visiting there.
They have the most marvelous bird sculpture in their peranent collection, but when they have a special exhibit, it is not on view. I really like to show it off.
As an educator, I would recommend this to anyone with children.
A glass elevator takes you out of the grass and face to face with a giant dinosaur. A cave family hunts a wolly mammoth statue allowing you to gain perspective on the shear size of the beast. Want to visit an Ozark cave - come right in.
I visited with my 2 and 3 year old and it sparked a love for all things dinosaur. This museum does a great job of creating spaces for even the youngest visitors to explore. In the discovery room they can go on a dig complete with safety googles and brushes. You might not expect such a gem in Norman, OK but this museum tops many larger ones when it comes to dinosaurs and native american displays. Fantastic.
What a great place to visit. The dinosaurs, the Native American exhibits and the overall atmosphere are just fantastic. Take as little or as much time as you want.
February every year the SNOMNH celebrates its birthday (2007 is the 108th) and with that, they offer free admission.
