Guthrie Scottish Rite Masonic Center
Description
One of the world's largest Masonic buildings, this Greco-Roman style center has many features including handcrafted European fixtures, a gothic style library, an Egyptian Room auditorium designed after the Court of the Dead, and the Pompeiian Room which is modeled after rooms unearthed at the ancient buried city of Pompeii.
I have taken the guided tour numerous times at the Scottish Rite Building and I see new things each time. There are so many lost arts in this building it really is well worth the time to see it.
It is also interesting because a portion of the current building was the original Capital Building for the State of Oklahoma. Guthrie was the first capital of Oklahoma before Oklahoma City stole the State Seal.
I would recommend this destination to any person who sees a value in history or great architecture.
What a wonderful piece of history. Our tour guide was very informative and fun. We had a wonderful time and will visit again soon. This is truely an amazing place-well worth the money if you haven't seen it GO!!
You simply must view this beautiful building. Every corner holds something to discover. Even those who are not involved in the beautiful tradition of Freemasonry will greatly enjoy the magnificence of this stately building. Just ask and they can assist you in discovering more about the wonderful fraternity as well! Take it from me, a 32nd degree Mason, you'll love it!
