Bellamy Mansion Museum & Gardens
The most spectacular example of Antebellum architecture, this mansion is one of North Carolina's premier historic treasures. Beautiful Victorian gardens are also on the property and tours are available. The mansion contains changing exhibitions on history and design arts.
I loved my tour guide. i noticed alot of the reviews for this house were a bit old and this summer i went they have dont alot of resteration around the house inside and out. it was very informative. we watched a 12 video in the beginging which i thought was a bit long but other then that loved everything else. the gift shop was filled with lots of little southern trinkets that are just cute and great little gifts for friends.
The house goes on and on, it is really huge. I was really impressed with the knowledgeable tour guide, he made it fun and interesting. There is not much furniture, but it does not matter becuase the house itself is so impressive. I want to live there! There is also a movie that starts the tour that makes you appreciate what you are seeing, and the importance of the house in history. It's an architectural gem and worth the money to be a part of it, if just for a little while.
My family & I enjoyed our self guided tour. We watched the 12 min film on the history of the property and had tour brochures to guide us around. It was very interesting imagining how the slaves and the Bellamy's life may have been during its days of use. It was hard to see the slave quarters but important to witness. The "African American Artisians" exhibit was very informative and the gardens were beautiful. We all felt humbled by this tour.
It's very pretty to look at from the outside, but it is what it is... An old house. There was quite a bit of work going on, and there wasn't really any furniture in the house, so the rooms were pretty empty. But the garden was really pretty!
I loved what they are doing, and the restoration process and buildings were beautiful. You need to take the tour to make it worthwhile. They have been focusing on the restoration and not so much on the decorating .... most of the rooms are without furniture. Hopefully things will move along quickly for them...they are doing some great work. I had kids with me and they were looking for the stately trimmings.
The house looks very impressive from the road and in the brochures. But we were disappointed it was not furnished. The tour was informative, but seemed dull and I found myself looking at my watch. It is worth seeing for the first time, but I won't go back.
