Cape Hatteras National Seashore
This 75 mile, 30,000 acre seashore extends from Bodie Island to Ocracoke Island and offers the perfect environment for strolling on the beach, shelling, fishing, surfing, snorkeling, campfire gatherings, beautiful sunsets, birding, and wildlife watching. National Park Rangers are on patrol daily.
Been going to Hatteras since the early 70's, sad to say the last few years the "Park disService" has closed most of the southern beaches for a nonendangered to breed. They close 1000 yards of beach for a pair of birds that nest on roof tops one hundred miles up the coast. The park service will tell you that miles and miles of beach are open and they are but there is no access to them, there are nine ramps onto 70 plus miles of beach,BUT our park service puts up these enclosures on each side of the ramps rendering miles and miles of beach closed.
Cape Hatteras is listed as a National Seashore, not a bird refuge and it is no longer the magical place it once was.
It is kind of odd that non of the birds have been spotted in front the million dollar homes or any or the small towns
I have been going to Cape Hatteras for 50 years and it is my home away from home. The Local people are the best. You feel at home. The Light House is a sight to see. The beaches are clean, very few people. It is like having it all to yourself. Matter of fact I shell hunt early in the mornings and I am usually the only one on the beach. There sea shells as far has you can see. The fishing is great! BUT I HATE TO BUST YOUR BUBBLE, BUT THEY HAVE CLOSED OFF ALMOST ALL THE BEACH. MAYBE 100 YARDS AND IT WILL CLOSE SOON. ALL THAT BEAUTY AND YOU CAN'T EVEN WALK ON IT, MAYBE IF YOU ARE BIRD. THIS IS REALLY GOING TO HURT THE LOCAL PEOPLE'S BUSINESS.
Going for 47 + years. Environuts and Judge Boyle want to shut it down so non endangered birds can lay an egg..Use to be best fishing but cant even get to tge Point anymore..You would thin this would be violation of disability act. Go to Frank and Franks in Avon..
The entire family at one time or another has went to the Outer Banks. We have celebrated birthdays, vacations, wedding ect. Will always go at least once a year if not twice. People are laid back and friendly. It is a place I like to call our second home. Going in July, can't wait counting the days.
Cape Hatteras- The greatest beach for surfing without a crowd there is in the contiental USA. I have lived and surfed in California, Puerto Rico, NJ, Mass, Virginia Beach, South Florida and nothing compares to Cape Hatteras. Unlike many of the top beaches on the East Coast, at Hatteras you can actually stretch out and have a conversation with the people you go with. The beach is so awesome it cured me of my ocean fear the great movie masterpiece "Jaws" gave me at a tender young age of 4. The waist high waves come in 4 sets like clock work and sing to you like a siren song.
The surf is amazing, the water is clean, the skies are clear of banners, the roads are empty except an occasional long-board or beach cruiser. Cape Hatteras is what you crave when you go to the beach. A nice relaxing environment free of all the over-hyped consumerism you find in beach communities that have mega stores every two feet. Everything thing you buy is going to be locally grow and owned. Please enjoy the scenic drive and when you are out there don't ruin it for me :)
Great place to go sit on the beach and listen to the waves.I grew up going there for our family vacations and now I take my family. Plenty of houses to choose from and can always find something fun to do even with young children.
Tree huggers and birdie tweeeps are trying to close it down...instead of trying to share it together...they are trying to close it all for theirselves....Play together or run them off before they ruin this great place..........
