Outer Banks
By Chuck, 5/29/12
Been going here since 1982. Started in Duck when it was a sleepy village; bu that's been ruined with McMansions right next to each other. Moved on to Salvo/Waves/Rodanthe, which is less commercial and has a great beach and big waves. On further to Ocracoke, but it's a long dang day to get there. It does, however, have probably the nicest beach; no houses or development on it outside of town. Quaint little village; sort of the Key West of North Carolina. All the comments I read were about not being able to drive on the beach. If that's all you want that; go to Daytona. Also, not sure why they have this listed as being in Manteo? The beaches of the Banks are so so varied that you cannot include them all in one listing.

Too much of the beach has been closed. Better places to spend your time and money.

You can look but, can't touch
By Dadzilla, 5/29/11
We've been visiting the Outer Banks for about 15 years and each year more beach has been closed more frequently and for longer periods for nesting piping plovers. It seems that the piping plover population has been increasing year after year. Then again, everything isn't always what it seems. Sadly, it all comes down to who has more money for their agenda.

OBX Camping
By Chris, 5/29/11
We go every year to the outer banks. There is nothing like camping at the outer banks. We stay every year at Cape Woods Campground. We only go to the beach for the beach. So we tent camp and are on the beach very early to set up our canopy and stay all day. If you want a very friendly, inexpensive camp ground check out Cape Woods. Can't wait for the week of JULY 4th.

Environut and proud of it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/28/11
Beautiful area that is part of the National Seashore. No marauding beach buggies, litter, and t- shirt shops. Just you, the native critters, and the ocean. It's heaven. These places deserve and need to be protected.

Outer Banks....
By jim, 5/28/11
Hey I know that the Cape Hatteras being closed for the birds is frustrating but how many beaches along the outer banks are this way? The outerbanks, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head are all great areas to visit....Take advantage of the whole area.....

One of the best
By dazednconfused, 5/28/11
Love the drive down to Ocracoke Island on the land bridge that spans over the ocean. Great fishing, beach and swimming. Lots of pirate history too. Blackbeard used Hatteras as a haven.

Grew Up On OBX
By Spearit, 5/28/11
Guys, and Girls, I keep seeing people writing about the beaches being closed for the sand pipers. I must say all of those comments are correct. The entire heritage of the banks is at risk because of this. All for a bird that is in no real danger. As a matter of fact only the juvinille birds nest close to the water. These birds do not need our help. More bleeding heart liberal crap ruining our beach. Go to the Banks, and enjoy but see for yourself whats going on.
