Riverside Riding Stables, Rutherfordton

First of all, the correct address is 1325 freeman town road, rutherfordton, nc 28139. The staff was awesome, especially our trail guide, Tammy. All the staff was helpful and pleasant. We loved our horses and the mountain trail was a lot of fun for the whole family, including our 8 year old daughter. We will definitely come back again.

I took the wife and grand kids and we had a blast. We had a great guide who took her time with us and made everyone feel special. It was my best riding experience ever. I can't say enough about the good time we had.

While on vacation, my daughter and I wanted to ride in the NC mountains and take her three-year-old daughter for her first trail ride. Upon arrival, the staff, Tracey and Tammy, were friendly, accommodating and very knowledgeable. They described the trail and, because our group consisted of riders of various levels of experience, gave a general orientation of how to guide and control the horses. What a thrill for the young riders to see wild turkeys and a beautiful fillie running in the pasture near the barn. My daughter thoroughly enjoyed the ride, and really appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with nature and horses in a relaxed environment. Tracey, our very capable trail guide, was patient with our little cowgirl, the youngest of the group, who asked many, many questions, and loved every minute of the experience. I have been a riding instructor for many years, own and love horses, and I truly enjoy visiting a riding stable where the horses are gentle and healthy, in good physical condition, and return to clean, dry stalls. Tammy was ready to meet us back at the barn and help co-ordinate and give assistance when needed with the dismounts (and pictures!) What a blessing to have visited the Riverside Riding Stables for my granddaughter's first hour trail ride, giving all three of us a happy and positive experience. We will definitely return to Riverside when in the area.

Everyone was really friendly getting everything set up. They told me the day before (when I called to confirm) that it was going to take an hour to get there from Asheville. Very accurate. However, the stable was closed that day due to the weather the night before. There was no call. No sign on the gate. One of the other cars called a neighboring stable to find out that they were closed due to weather and Riverside probably was as well. There was no message on an answering machine to notify me of the change as well. I drove two hours for nothing that could have been prevented with a professional phone call, which was promised the day before when I called.

This was my first experience with horses and horseback riding. Although it was not an experience that I particularly enjoyed, the staff were wonderful! They were patient with me and my children, took time to answer questions and were so well informed. My youngest child absolutely enjoyed the experience.

These guys deliver everything they promise. We had 14 people together on vacation, including little kids as young a 4 yrs old. For 25 bucks each, we got an hour ride in the mountains near Lake Lure. What was really nice was that even our 6 year old could ride her own horse without being led. Little ones can ride in tandem with a parent. The guides don't offer much conversation, but are a reassuring presence for the entire ride--there is no question they could handle anything that comes up. The horses know the deal and they stick with the program (even going back to their own stall upon return). Lots of fun, especially with kids.
