Miserable customer service

Reserved three kayaks (paid in advance over the phone with credit card) and we were told that they would be ready the following morning at 9.
Got to the shop at about 9:40 a.m. and the place was closed. A handwritten sign on the door said to call a guy named Greg for after hours help. Greg didn't answer and he never responded to any messages.
The kayaks were part of a birthday gift for my father-in-law and we had planned to explore the Fort Fisher Basin in the morning while it was relatively cool outside. We decided to try and make the best of a disappointing situation and headed to the beach.
After a while I drove back to the shop and found it open so I pulled up to the front. That's when this sickly rakish guy comes running out yelling "What do you think you're doing? This ain't no parking lot." I told him we were picking up the kayaks we'd reserved and asked why the shop had been closed when we were told it would be open. He muttered something about "this guy didn't show up." Never apologized.
He unlocked the kayaks, pulled three off the rack, threw some life jackets. back supports and paddles onto the pavement and disappeared. No offer to help loading the truck. No advice. No paperwork. Didn't even ask my name. Nothing.
One of the back supports was broken and useless - a fact we discovered at the kayak launch.
I'm not big on writing online reviews. But I thought it was important to call out a business that treats its customers so badly. Maybe I'll save someone from a crappy experience with Pleasure Island Rentals. I do know that I will never rent anything from this place again.
