love the park
By Jane, 4/15/12
My family and friends have been coming to the park for 3 years. We live in VA and drive appox 3 hrs and we average going every other weekend in the summer. After reading the reviews I would like to comment about the food prices - try going to Kings Dominon or Bush Gardens you will find Emerald Points prices very fare, also parking at Kings Dominon I believer is over 10.00. I have never had any one at the park be rude. Disappointed this year that the priorioty pass does not include free parking like the pass years. We enjoy the park very much and will continue to go!!

Avoid this place at all cost!
By Chris, 8/25/11
Horrible place. 20 minutes to buy an Ice cream cone. no joke!! No credit card readers, that's right, they write your credit card number on a little paper slip and send you on your way. This is the 21st century people!! get with the times. 1 beer $6, 1 slice of pizza with chips and no drink $8. This place is ridiculous. Not to mention that one of their water slides CUT my skin in four places. One of the black slides under daredevils drop. I thought I was going so fast it was a heat burn, but come to find out it broke my skin all over my back!! Cabana waitress was the nicest person there, everyone else seemed to hate their job due to lack in technology and efficiency. I would never be back top this place and advise anyone to avoid at all cost. As a great alternative, Dolly Parton's Splash Country is 1000 times better. Eventually, some little 6 year old kid is gonna go down that slide and it's gonna cut his back bad enough to open a lawsuit. When that day happens, I hope this place gets shutdown or at least new owners.

total disappointment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/25/11
Most unfriendly staff I have ever encountered. My grandchilds snack was confiscated at the gate! The water was freezing cold. The place is packed with people, almost to the point of being dangerously overcrowded. My son climbs to the top of the waterslide only to be turned away because he refuses to give the attendant his tee shirt although several others were allowed to go down in tee shirts. Most of the "staff" are kids. Ridiculous how the place is run. I am amazed it stays in business. I would never go back or recommend it to anyone.

Best Water Park Ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/17/11
I loved the entire park, it's was packed with things to do for all ages! The whirlpool ride was awesome! Only thing I didn't like was all the food/drink prices were sky high! I recommend bringing your cooler/bag and checking them in at the gate and going there to have snacks and reenter. That way you don't have to pay the extreme prices! But, you have to expect it for any establishment such as this! All of the rides were open and great. The park was clean and nice. Even plus sized people can fit on the rides and wear the life jackets! I found this awesome cause most places are not equipped for larger sized people! The lifeguards were on point, and truly did their jobs! I had a group of 24 persons and we all left planning our next visit! This park beats Carowinds by far!

Dad almost lost life here today
By Lori, 8/22/10
Dad went under in whirlpool today...me, my mom, and strangers started screaming HELP..and waving our arms for the lifeguard (which was right above us). He never came to help. My dad has always been a great swimmer. He went under and could not get himself back up. I tried to help him while at the same time screaming as loud as I could to the lifeguard and waving...then I went under. He literally almost lost his life in there today. Thank the lord above that he somehow finally got forced up ..my mom and I trying to help as much as we could..while being pulled in different directions. We told the supervisor there..and he was rude about it...and seemed not to care. I just want people to know so that this does not happen to anyone else. Seeing my father like that...the look on his face..will haunt me forever. We will NEVER go back

Had a ball
By Jon, 8/21/10
Me, wifey and 2 sons visited this park today and we were planning on the worst because I read the reviews about this park just before our visit. Glad I did because it made the visit so much better. The park was clean, lines were not bad(might be a good idea to stay clear on 4th of july weekend), lifeguards werent on a power trip(actually they were quite polite) umm what else... no smell of the waste water plant, and I paid for my food online with a coupon code that my wife looked up so our meals were basically FREE! Me and the fam had a blast and before we come back, I'll be sure to read some more reviews so that I will expect the worst and have a great time again. Thank you all.

lots of fun but could stand a few improvements
By memyselfi, 8/10/10
I took my 7 yr. old nephew on 8/9/10 which was a Monday and stayed almost all day. Would've saved a little money by purchasing the admission/meal/locker pkg. online b/c you can't get the locker at the gate, have to get it inside separately. The food is of course expensive but who expects cheap food at these places? It's not outrageous though. Next time I might pack our lunch and eat at the car like I saw some people doing. Also forgot to use our meal tickets for lunch! So I found a manager and he let me use them at one of the dessert stands which they normally don't do. The hot dog place, a couple of small refreshment stands, and one of the water attractions (although not a slide) were closed. Not sure if that was due to the fact that we were there during the week. A gift shop employee directed me to the closed hot dog place when I asked. I was annoyed at having to walk all the way there to find it closed. Was surprised she didn't know it was closed. The weather was a little overcast so it was perfect. Lines for slides weren't bad. Probably waited 20 mins. at most. I would not want to go on the weekend. A few times when we got done at a ride that requires a tube there was no line of people at the bottom waiting for a tube so we took ours right back up and rode again. I tried most rides except the Daredevil one which is just a chute almost straight down. Tried one of the twister ones right next to the Daredevil and didn't enjoy that. Almost flipped over and had to right myself to keep my face from being in the water on the way down. But the worst one was "The Edge" which is shaped like a half-pipe. You drop in from the top on an inner tube and it feels almost vertical which I'm sure is the appeal. They instruct you to put your chin to your chest, why I have no idea. Not only did that make me feel like I might flip forward (which may be the appeal for some) but it gave me whip lash due to the force which immediately sent my head whipping backward. They should just tell people to lean back. I think I would've been better off if I had. I had a brief head ache after that one and my neck still hurts 24 hrs. later. My nephew is over the 45" limit for many of the rides so we had no problems but I would def. do my research if you have a kid shorter than that to see what they will be able to ride. There are many play pools for all ages though with little slides and things to play on. Another improvement would be to post more directional signage around the park to keep from having to carry a map around everywhere which we did and it got torn up pretty quick from getting wet. They had a few signs here and there but it would be helpful to have them at every path intersection. I also recommend wearing flip flops or water shoes inside the park. They have cubbies at the bottom of each ride to stash them in while on the ride. I didn't start out with mine but put them on later b/c my feet started getting tender walking around on all that concrete. At the wave pool they have lots of lounge chairs all around the perimeter but there is a fence between the chairs and the pool so that if you're all the way on one end like we were, you have to walk all the way to the middle of the fence to the only entrance to the wave pool and then all the way around again to get back to your chair which was a pain. The only reason I can think of for this is so they can monitor what people might be trying to take into the pool b/c there was a staff person standing at the entrance. I think the only thing you're allowed to take in is a life jacket, they don't have floats and you can't bring your own. All the staff were friendly and courteous. No one seemed distracted any time. Can't wait to return!

Park only open when sky is COMPLETELY clear
By Katy, 7/22/10
We were incredibly disappointed with our trip to this park. After driving 2 hours to be there with friends from Florida, the park closed 3 times due to clouds. No thunder or lightning, just clouds. Then when it was finally sunny, it closed for good around 2pm. We were NOT reimbursed for our $7 parking and we got a cheap COOZIE that said "Wet n' Wild" (as if we now want to promote their park) as reimbursement for the $13 locker we purchased. THEN we were told we could not get a refund on our money, we could only get raincheck tickets. We will be reporting it to the Better Business Bureau. What a waste of 85 bucks.

Was not at all happy
By Melissa, 7/5/10
What I liked, the life guards really did their job well, What I disliked--The lines were too long, the staff was not at all friendly. We waited in line for our meal (purchased vouchers via internet for meals) only to be told we would have to go back to the front gate for them to be validated. Then had to argue with 3 people about what came with our meal (the voucher stated 1 entree, chips and drink) finally management came and after stating our facts again, she told us they did not come with chips that chips was not part of their combo,(but advertisement on the check out counter stated different)but finally gave us 4 bags of chips, Parts of the park were closed at different times, the wave pool was not working properly. And the prices were outrageous. 8.99 for a icee was not a good thing. It was an ok visit but it will be a long time before I plan a trip there again. I would rather go to Carowinds. They seem to have it more together. More for your money
