This award-winning theater has been performing elaborate musicals, classic dramas, off-Broadway productions, comedies, and children's shows for over 40 years. Well known stars of the stage and screen are often seen performing here.
I can only hope that my wife and I came on an off-night, because the cast was flat and the blocking looked contrived.
It seemed odd that the leading lady was far too old for the part she was playing; and her so-called chemistry with the leading man was borderline toxic.
The sets and scenery were the only highlights of this experience.
What can you say about Cape Fear Regional Theatre? To be blunt, it's a "Vanity Theatre." It looks good from a distance and to the casual observer, but where is the local talent? I can't help but wonder if the lustre of bringing in the soap opera stars and washed-up broadway divas is worth all the money spent? But, I digress. Here's hoping that another artistic director will manage to wrestle the reigns from Bo Thorp some day and bring artistic merit back to Fayetteville Little Theatre.
