A local tribute to the Irish pub, The Parting Glass is as authentic as displaced UK-ers are likely to find around here. There are dartboards. There are ales on tap. There are also frequent Irish music performances where the audiences get much more wild and giddy than is typical for upstate NY. The place just feels relaxed and friendly.
The Parting Glass is the best place in the capital region for Irish music played by Hair Of The Dog or The McKrells. It's also a great venue for some of the popular rock and roll bands. It boasts a VERY large back room for darts and drinking with your friends. The front end is a normal Irish bar with seating just like you would find in any restaurant. In the middle of the place, you find the music hall. Just big enough to pack people in like sardines, but still comfortable for your family. Food is standard late night bar food. Lots of drinks and a drinking club too. The only down sides to this establishment are that it is hard to get any speedy service when you're in the music hall. Also on the down side, some of the older wait staff are very rude: just look for the grumpy faces and avoid them. Overall, its the best place I have ever found for Irish music anywhere in the country!
