There is good access into the museum, capitol and plaza. The museum is free, though all day parking is $10.00 around the location.
The museum offers a wide range of exhibits of the area and include the geological, archeaological and hsitory of NY. I was impressed with the respect they shown for the native peoples of NY in the displaying of the tribal flags. The 9-11 display is what brought me back and still when you enter it feels like you're in church. Low whispered voices and memories that will never fade. I wanted to cry watching the video of the fireman who lost all of his company and friends that day. No matter what ethnic background and where you call home, this display will move you.
Always a delight to visit and the staff and extremely courteous and helpful - I inquired on a wheelchair for my mother and was promptly served with helpful staff and a smile.
It was interesting and fun. There were some exhibits that didn't have a whole lot of content. I am not that interested in looking at wax models without any artifacts or actual pieces of history. There were some exhibits that were more than worth the free price of admission! I loved learning more about the city of Albany and would love to learn more next time I go.
The New York State Museum has interesting exhibits describing the history of various parts of New York state. Its an interesting place to learn about the different aspects of NY. One warning. If you go during the summer on a weekend, check if there is an event going on. If there is, the road will be blocked and parking is difficult for handicap folks.
The museum is easily accessible for all ages! I go with my friends, the over 70's, and I go with my children and my grandchildren! The exhibits are always interesting for us all, the Museum Store is a valuable educational source as well as an invaluable gift source. The art films are always on my calendar, as are the changing current exhibits. I have found the quality of the exhibits superb...this museum is truly a jewel in Albany's crown, and is to be treasured. Thank you so very much for everything you do for all Albanians!
My sister, grandparents, and I had a wonderful experience. We really liked it! Every exhbit was wonderful. The place for the children was really great. My sister and I rode the carousel a lot of times. We ate at Subway. We also saw the trade center pieces. We went outside and saw the egg. Why did we go? Well sometimes just because it is excellent and once because I had a thing to do in school. We had to hand in pictures and postcards. It is a great place to take pictures. We took them outside only. It is an excellent place!
This was the second time I visited this exhibit. Very moving for me, it brought tears to my eyes. One cannot understand the destruction until you see the exhibit. I suggest everyone to visit. It's free.
