Going back this weekend
By inginouity, 11/02/07
We went there in early October 2007 and we loved it, even extended our stay. We are going back for a long weekend this weekend. Nice and quiet, beautiful sunrises, awesome views, very friendly staff, very clean restrooms and wonderful shower facility. The ranger did a splendid job explaining my son the exposition in the ranger station. I have a feeling this will become our regular escape spot.

Our family sayed at Oliver Lee many years ago. We loved it. We sat on the hillside in the evening and watched the train going by far in the valley below. We all saw a giant spider, too!

Oliver Lee State Park, Alamogordo, NM
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/04
My sister and I camped at the Oliver Lee State Park during the week of July 4, 2004 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Electricity to power the a/c really helped make the stay a good one.

The hiking trail is great and we also enjoyed the museum about Oliver Lee/Indians/etc. We saw a mama quail with her babies, Road Runners, Horney Toads, Jack Rabbits and other wildlife. The plants were outstanding and I enjoyed quizzing the people working there about the names of the plants/trees/shrubs.

The campground was clean/quiet/well cared for. We were pretty centrally located to Alamogordo, Ruidoso, Las Cruces, El Paso, Cloudcroft, Sunspot, etc and were able to go sight-seeing each day and return to our camp in the evening. I know we will certainly choose to stay there again.
