this place is a joke. disgusting people and disgusting town dont waste your time on this pathetic ride. the need some more things than rundown carney rides and rundown bars to make this place worth visiting. the base was even run down. they tried hiding the run down base by adding a new gate. you cant fix ugly!!
Nancy and I really enjoyed the opportunity to see Toy Train Depot Museum, it was great and the staff is defintly dedicated to have a good time and pass on their passion. It sure looked like a lot of work to set up all the scenery and various gauges of tracks. There knowledge impressed my wife and I. Phil & Nancy Oren
This place is amazing. The historic depot is worth the visit, then you get to ride the MTC Park Trains. Their collection is huge. Historic accuracy is their byword. My kids and grandkids had a total blast. This museum should be listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. If you are any where near Alamogordo dont pass this up. I cant understand those negative reviews. Somebody was spoofing I think.
Me and my brother visited the Toy Train
Depot in Alamorgordo, NM Nov 21, 2007 and
found it very interesting and recomend
it for everyone to visit.
Enjoy it for sure next time out here in
We had a wonderful time visiting the museum and riding the minature trains. The tour guides and the train engineer were very courteous and helpful in answering our many questions. We saw some of the toy trains in the museum that we had back in the 1950's. We are anxious to return in the near future!

The building (a real train depot over 100 yeaqrs old) is charming and adds realism. The layouts are historically accurate (I am into history), and the model trains are really neat. It is fairly small, but there's a lot packed into the available space. The ride is fine for children (or those in their second childhoods), but the real value of this is the visuals and the history.
Yes, I read a few negative reviews, but it's hard to like something if you are not knowledgable in history or the subject matter (in this case, model railroading).
We loved it, and I think most people will too.
This is a wonderful experience for all ages. The docents and staff are very knowlegable of the railroad history of this facinating area. We planned to spend only a few day In Alamogordo, but loved the area and all the things to do. We stayed our entire vacation. The kids spent days riding the train thru their park, right next to the Union Pacific mainline tracks. When they were in the 16" gauge park train and a fast moving full size freight went by on the mainline the engineers exchanged whistle signals. My children were blown away. They want us to move to Alamogordo. Maybe we will!!!
This place is a jewel for train enthusiasts. The people who run it are totally into toy trains and are happy to share their knowledge as well as demonstrate the exhibits. Several are former railroaders. A train enthusiast could spend hours looking at all the items in the collection. Several working layouts add an extra pop to the experience. Only one complaint: the staff is constantly telling stories and giving information, thus there is little opportunity to wander, look and read. I'm sure they are worried about theft and thus visitors can't just meander on their own. The building is an old train station.
