Revolutionary War Kitchen Garden
The Wick House is an important site in NJ history. The garden helps illustrate the uses of plants in the 1800s. Many thanks to the volunteers who maintain the garden!
On various visits, I have seen flowering plants used for cooking and medicinal purposes. In winter, dried bunches from the garden are on display inside the Wick House. The garden and the orchard adjacent to the house give a hint as to what this area must have looked like in Revolutionary War time.
Park employees in Colonial clothing add a "Time Warp" dimension to the Park experience. Seeing people in period clothing, cooking over the hearth, using vegetattion grown in the Garden gives a feel for the time period.
