The home of the Morris County Historical Society, this Italianate mansion also serves as a museum that focuses on the Victorian era in the region, and offers exhibits of costumes, textiles, artifacts, decorative art items, and much more; the landscaped Victorian gardens that are located on the grounds of the mansion are also open to the public from dawn to dusk.

Victorian Weekends at Acorn Hall

Acorn Hall is magnificently maintained with rooms full of period furniture. Such elaborate beauty! The ladies dressed in Victorian clothing, as they conducted booths for kids and dancing classes during the Victorian Weekends in 2005 and 2006, were a visual treat. The costumes make history come alive here, the way no static museum can. The Victorian outfits helped me suspend time, immersing myself in the Victorian Era, at least for the brief time I was able to spend here. I have visited Acorn Hall on various ocassions for Victorian Weekends, and again, to view the Special Exhibits on the upper floor. NJ is so rich in history. It is a pleasure to enjoy so much, so close to home.

Beautiful Historical Home

Love those old Victorian houses, especially when they are faithfully restored (in this case with many of the original items). Plus the history of the owners and their lives here is well documented. Great place to learn about local history in a classic Victorian location.
