Offshore Sailing School, Jersey City

Having succesfully completed my fast track yachtmaster course with Alfer I would highly recommend them to anyone. The boats have been very well maintained and the entire team, Al, John and Sie did a fantastic job. The feedback was forthcoming on a daily basis and any issues dealt with in a very professional and prompt manner. Their course was flexible and i was able to plan breaks (essential) to accomodate my needs. Keep up the good work guys, missing the fun already. All the best, Bill

We have just completed a week's charter with Atlantic Charters Racing in Gibraltar and it was everything we expected. The boat - Seawolf was immaculate inside and out. The skipper - Dave was very experienced and taught us more than we have every been taught by other sailing schools in the area. I highly recommend this school - you get exactly what they advertise on their website and more!!

We managed to get 5 friends together for 2 weeks, so no problems with strangers. I think we presented a bit of a challenge to the instructor, as we had 1 person who had never been sailing before, 2 novices and 2 experienced. Our instructor Clive was really brilliant and always had time for the total beginner, as well as setting challenges for the more experienced. He had lots of really useful tips and techniques which he taught us and I felt we all learned a lot in the 2 weeks. The sailing was BRILLIANT - we had 20 - 30kts most days and a couple days of 40+ kts. We did a lot of sailing and visited interesting places in Spain and Morocco. Night sailing in Gibraltar Bay is the most difficult I have ever done in 30 years of sailing! Great experience. The only drawback was that it had to end!

We did Day Skipper with Trafalgar Sailing and were very happy with the whole experience. Our instructor was Keith, an embodiment of calm no matter what the situation. We would recommend this school to anyone. The only drawback, perhaps, is that the coast of Spain is not the most interesting place to sail. Mainly posh marinas and little local life.

I did my Coastal Skipper RYA course with Jim Field in Gibraltar and learnt more in one week than I thought possible. The boats are new, the food and accommodation is good and the course is quite challenging, most rewarding. The busy shipping lanes in the Strait, tide and local currents make a crossing from Gib to Morocco an interesting one. Jim was a very patient and calm teacher, he really encouraged us to take control of the boat. I would recommend this school to anyone looking to learn how to sail.

I did both my Competent Crew and Day Skipper with Trafalgar Sailing School. Both the instructors I had were excellent and really boosted my confidence and understanding. The sailing area is varied and being able to explore both Morocco and Spain in one week was amazing. I am planning on going back this year to do my coastal skipper and would highly recommend Trafalgar Sailing.

Having read Flurs comments I would like to give my point of view. I did my RYA Day Skipper course with Trafalgar Sailing in Gibraltar and found them to be very professional. Our Instructor was a great laugh and worked us hard to get us up to speed with skippering the boat. We were never short of wind in the Straits and the ports we visited outside Gibraltar were really nice. Gib is not all that, but it is cheap to fly to from the U.K. I found the course good value for money at �460. Food and cabins were good, boats are all new and modern. The only negative comment is that if you share the boat with other students you never know what they are going to be like and you are all living together for a week! So if you can, go with a bunch of friends and have your own boat. There is also a lot of safety stuff you have to listen to with the RYA courses, they do this on the afternoon you arrive when all you really want to do is get out sailing in the sun. Fortunately there is daylight till late even in the winter so you have time to sail later into the afternoon than in Northern Europe. I am now training towards my Coastal Skipper and would recommend Trafalgar to anyone looking to learn how to sail at any level.
