Nature Center of Cape May, Cape May

The nature center is a wonderful place for families and the kids. I signed up my son and daughter for a week of children's classes and they didn't want to leave! The campfire program was so nice, and they even have an octopus in one of the tanks... VERY cool! :-)

Others reviewers may have questioned what the big deal is about this place, but I know the center has come a long way over the years. Last year a new welcome center building was opened with a cool lookout tower overlooking the harbor. A spectacular 360 degree view of the harbor. The new building is quaint and relaxing. Nice little gift shop, lounge, kids play corner and some minor exhibits. The best part of the center is the programs that they offer. My family comes back every year and enjoys something new and different as well as participates in the same Harbor Safari nature walk on the beach. Is now a family tradition. Kids love the fish tanks, turtles and touch tank. Is defintely not a high tech, museum experience, but does everything have to be?

I've visited the Nature Center on numerous ocassions and agree that it's a fantastic place for children, families and nature-lovers alike. The staff is wonderful, clearly knowledgable, resourceful and friendly. The new welcome center facility is beautiful and offers a magnificent view of Cape May Harbor. Their programs are excellent especially for the cheap and affordable prices (the kids love the crafts and getting to touch and learn about the animals). If you're in Cape May for a visit, definitely check the Nature Center out.

The Nature Center of Cape May is a great place for children, teens, and adults, both local and out of town. I have spent the past 3 summers there and have had a wonderful time, with friendly and informing staff, who are always happy to answer any questions they can. NCCM is a place I definitely recommend to all people of all ages because it is just one more aspect that makes Cape May unique.

This could have been a great experience. It wasn't. We stopped off with our children one rainy day hoping to spend a little time learning more about nature. We encountered unfriendly staff who acted as if they'd be happier if we just left. We visited last year and our kids had a fantastic time. A naturalist spent a little time with them showing them turtles and they got to release a butterfly. There were simple displays that the kids loved seeing. They still talk about that visit and the naturalist. This year there was little in the way of hands on activities for the kids. It seems that unless your children are signed up for a class, the staff really don't want you there. What a wasted opportunity.
