Mount Mora Cemetery
The oldest operating cemetery in St. Joseph, this cemetery is the final resting place for many of St. Joseph's wealthy and powerful citizens including three Missouri governors, one of the first Pony Express riders, and an English knight.
I recently visited St. Joseph to find my ancestors graves. I found my gg-grandfather and his wife, I also found their WW2 vetran son, who died in combat. The Cemetery was a mess. Here it was the end of July and the grass was grown up over over half the graves.
The Cemetery is in the middle of St. Jospeh. A steel fence surrounds the graves, and the cities history started with this graveyard. It needs help. St. Joseph needs help. There are many people who make the genealogy trail their hobby. The hotels, restaurants, museums would all benefit by keeping the cemetery up to standards. St. Joseph you are neglecting your hero's.
This cementary has fallen in complete disrepair! No manager around, two days in a row, no response to telephone call. Grass and weeds up to your knee.
While looking for a gave, we were greeted by the warning sound of a rattle snake!
Understand, the day to day function of this location is up for public view.
Don't visit this location until its cold and the weeds have been beaten down.
