My daughter, her Maid of Honor, and I ate lunch at Cafe Roswitha the day before her wedding. We were in a hurry and I wished we had had time to have a leisurely lunch. The food was excellent. Beautiful soothing music added to the lovely atmosphere. Our waitress had a cold and never came back to see if we needed drink refills. I had the crab salad and cup of homemade potato soup. Yum!!! I wish we'd had time to sample a desert. The tea room was filled with items for sale..even the paintings on the wall. The next time my husband and I are in Springfield I want to eat there. Hopefully they will improve their service. It seems to be a problem that needs to be fixed. Attentive service would make this Cafe a sublimely supreme experience!!!
My book club and I had a wonderful meal at this restaurant with terrible service. The waiter was rude, sarcastic and impatient not to mention tacky. When we addressed the poor service with the management we received no apology for the less than adequate service but rather a bored look and defense of the server for "policy" and the automatic gratuity was removed from our check. If you have 5 or more expect 18%!
I went here just before Christmas. The atmosphere was intimate and lovely with garlands and ornaments adding color and warmth to the dining area. The adjacent shop includes an assortment of European goodies and the difficult to find German candies.
The cafe offers a dark, delicious raspberry iced tea. For the main entree I had the crab salad. It was creamy and delicious. I couldn't stop until I had finished it all. Perfection! For dessert they offered a variety of sweets and I chose the orange citrus cake. It was excellent. I will definitely be returning. A wonderful place to meet family and friends for a leisurely lunch and conversation.
Tucked at the back of Rosie's little boutique is one of the best kept secrets in Springfield.
Cafe Roswitha. Entering from the mall parking, work your way through gift items, wonderful fragrances, food stuffs to prepare at home, then, at the back of the boutique, then find yourself so pleasantly surprised.
Cafe Roswitha's owner has a unique gift for creating atmosphere and good food that the Europeans do best.
Always offered are a couple of German dishes, along with Quiches, daily special, Soups, Salads and Desserts. I love the Goulash. The salad is one of a kind for this area and always superb.
Food is delectable, pride of ownership, always evident. Service is personal, prompt and we always feel special here.
This place is a small and exclusive. A class act.
We're located an hour from Springfield but have been known to drive there just to eat. When required to be Springfield during the day we just plan to fit in lunch with Rosie to sweeten the deal.
We highly encourage a visit to Cafe Roswitha. You'll want to make it your regular place. But you may find you're inclined to keep it your personal little secret! I know we think twice about telling too many people about the place for fear of changing perfection!
