Challenging But Fair
Oaks Hills sometimes gets a bad reputation among local golfers. Why? Most say because it is a "municipal course", but the real reason is because it's a challenging "old-school" course and they simply aren't up to it!
Cut out of the scenic hills and woodlands of the Missouri River valley, this mature course does not play like most of the newer, flat, open, treeless courses in the area. Due to this, "course management strategy" and "target golf" are your key to success.
It is a very fair course, but unforgiving to those who play "fast and loose" with the rules concerning out of bounds. The course is very scenic and the staff goes out of it's way to be of assistance. The new driving and practice areas are a great improvement.
The real CHALLENGES are the "sloping" fairway on holes #5 and #11 resulting in shots where your feet are above/below the ball. Another challenge concerns holes with hidden targets due to hill-crests, etc. Pay special attention to the scorecard map though, and you'll do fine.
It's a great course to hone your shotmaking skills, and the price can't be beat! Mature trees, good greens, lots of deer & geese, and fair yardages, what else could you ask for?
Oh, and before teeing off on #7 look behind you and check out the spectacular view!
