St. Mary Basilica
\"The construction of this place of worship was begun in 1842 as the Cathedral of the newly established Diocese of Natchez.\" The church took 40 years to be completed. 12 of its stained glass windows were installed between 1884 and 1893. The three marble altars, communion rail, Episcopal chair, and screens are in Carrara marble. Masses take place Monday through Friday at 8:00 a.m., Saturdays 4:00 p.m., and 10:00 a.m. Sundays.
The church is worth a peek in the door. It is a landmark. I especially love the park located behind the park. The fountain with the goldfish is beautiful, and the oak trees are something to behold. Also love the old cannon, and I spent many a day in that park when I lived there. Also nice benches to sit on and take in the view especially in the spring. Take your camera and wear your walking shoes so you can walk the streets downtown and take in the shops and see some of the antebellum homes nearby.
