Mount Kato Ski Area
The Mount Kato Ski Area features nineteen runs, with a two-thousand-eight-hundred-foot run as the longest, a two-hundred-forty-foot vertical drop, five quad lifts, three double lifts, two handle tows, and specially designed snow tubes; free adult lessons are available when renting equipment, and mountain biking trails are offered in the summer.
mount kato is a great skiing hill... best in the area hands down. tuesdays and thursdays they have college specials I believe for $14 night skiing. Also Dan Heppel local pro snow boarder pulls radical tricks and signs autographs for kids.
Mt Kato offers a great skiing experience for southern Minnesota. It may lack vertical feet but has a wide varity of terrain. The steeper runs are short but at least they are steep. There are plenty of blue cruiser runs as well. The topography of the valley offers a back side to the area allowing skiers more variety. If you are used to skiing out west then anything in the midwest will feel not worth while, however, if you are just getting into skiing or are looking to carve some turns while visiting southern Minnesota check out Mt. Kato.
