The location and selection is first rate, and the staff are all very knowledgable.
I've taken classes with them and they always go that extra mile to make sure you understand and are comfortable.
I look forward to future workshops.
My husband and I are relatively new to diving (less than 2 years) but we have taken many Scuba courses and trips as we are preparing for our last two courses before obtaining Master Scuba Diver rating. Huron Scuba is by far the best and most professional dive shop we have encountered. Their training exceeds all standards and expectations and it is obvious when we dive on vacation or with other shops that our training there was superior. The staff is always extremely helpful, even if you have no idea what you need, and will spend as much time with you as necessary. Everyone is courteous and knowledgeable. The new owners are awesome and you can go directly to them with any concerns or issues (although I don't anticipate you will have any).
Learning scuba is challenging, and expensive, but Huron Scuba will make sure that you have the gear you need to keep you safe and be successful divers with items to fit any budget. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to start diving or experienced divers looking for new gear, new dive buddies or new adventures.
We have been loyal customers of Huron Scuba since they opened and I think we've been on more dive trips with them than any other customer--twelve! Even after we moved to Atlanta GA, I'd rather do all my scuba business with Huron Scuba in Michigan. Dave and Rachel are extremely professional, honest, service-oriented and safety-conscious. Their products and trips are painstakingly researched and their attention to customer service is #1. For example, our scuba trip to Papau New Guinea included seven connecting flights, and every single detail was planned for the 2 1/2 week trip. When I needed a new 5 mil wetsuit for another trip we recently took with Huron Scuba to the Galapagos, Dave personally talked to me on the phone and recommended the Henderson Hyperstretch based on my needs. He then put two sizes in the mail to me so I could be sure of the fit. Dave and Rachel are passionate about diving and I'll go with them no matter where we live in the country.
I have spent hundreds of hours on the phone and in the store with Dave, Rachel and their staff and dont know where to start. I am a dive educator from Canada and needed to find a new source for authorized Scubapro equipment. The professionalism shown makes it easy to understand how they received a top ten dive operator in the USA ranking 4 years in a row. As a scuba edubator myself, seeing the review below I am assuming that each of these people had 10 minutes worth of contact with Huron Scuba. No scuba educator, including myself, can simply let someone dive along with a class, it is unfair to the students as well as the instrutor(s) as this is one more person to worry about. We encourage parents of our younger students to attend, but stay on deck and take pictures, it is muc more relaxing for the student with no pressure from mom or dad. The other issue I see below is related to age requirements. Anyone 10-11 years old requires classes of 1/2 the normal size, which is why most scuba educators (me included again) offer those classes on a priate basis. No matter how many adults sign up for a class, if ONE single 10 year old signs up then it automatically cuts the allowable size to 1/2 normal. These ratios have changed over the years for confined and open water levels, but have always limited the number of students allowed per session if included. I feel bad that they think they were slighted but believe it may just be that they dont fully understand the rules that are followed by all diver operators and the safety considerations involved in the designation of these ratios. It is designed to provide the safest and most fun for evertone involved.
I have been very happy with EVERY interaction I have had with Huron and their staff. The knowledge and time then spend on you is not seen in any other dive shop I have found and I will continue to recommend them to all that ask.
It is worth noting that I drive all the way from Canada (approx 60 min), past numerous other dives stores to get to Huron as the service and professionalism are outstanding.
I have brought in gear from other retailers for service and never had a problem with his team reviewing it for me, and I recently took a Huron Scuba organized dive trip to the Galapagos which I will have to save for an entire other review (wonderful !) but wanted to note that before that trip the Huron team took my gear (not purchased from them) and bench checked and adjusted each piece for me, and completed a bench report so I would confident that all equipment worked flawlessly - AND THEY DID IT FOR FREE. I am a proud member of the Huron Scuba travel customers now and have already booked another trip for my wife and I throught them.
This is the best store I have visited and the best dive trip I ever took was with them. It is going to be hard to top the Galapagos but I think that if any operator can come up with a way to do it, it will be Dave and Rachel and the Huron Scuba team.
I have sent 5 other Canadians to his store and all made a point to call me to thank me for lining them up. The service they received far surpassed anything they would have expected.
Truly an asset to the PADI team and the dive industry in general.

I went there a few years ago when I decided to get back into SCUBA and have been a regular customer ever since. All the instruction has been excellent with a lot of emphasis on safety. I also travel with them regularly because they always run a good trip and always look to get the best deal for divers.
Huron Scuba has long been a favorite of mine for gear and travel. The main reason: professional, high quality service. These people care about safety, quality of instruction, value for your money, and a great overall experience. I moved out of town but still travel with them regularly.
I make a point to come by the store when I am in town to stock up on new gear because I know I'll get good advice and a fair deal.
I have taken a lot of Scuba Courses and Trips over the years, and Huron Scuba is by far the best and most professional dive shop that I have ever encountered. Their training exceeds all standards and expectations and I have heard dive professionals around the world extolling how well trained my family and I are - as a direct result of Huron Scuba. Not that other shops don't do a good job, many do, but Huron Scuba is the best.
I guess once and a while they can upset somebody by adhering to tough standards that are designed to ensure a high level of training but that's a pretty small price to play in my mind.
They do make sure to keep it fun as well. Every penny I have spent there was worth it.
I have been very impressed in my experiences with Huron Scuba. I have checked out almost every local dive shop, and I am convinced that Huron Scuba has some of the best instructors, committed to high quality training. Class sizes are kept small to ensure plenty of practice and oversight. The owners value that you have a good experience in class and on a trip and that's what keeps me coming back. I have gone on two trips this shop and am scheduled for my third next month.
This is a store worth going out of your way for. If they don't have it, they will get it for you. You could buy equipment online for cheaper, but if it breaks "how long" does it take to get it replaced. If you buy it at the store and it breaks, it is replaced on the spot. I started going to this store because they where the only ones running the Con. Ed. classes I wanted. They are willing to run the classes that other stores won't. They keep their class size small for both comfort and safety. If you book a trip with them, they do it all. You just show up and dive and they take care of the rest.
