Booked a Sport Fishing Trip September 3, 2012, for four people. Were told over the phone that they limited their Sport Fishing to a maximum of 10 people. Got up extra early and packed lunch & drinks for a day of fun and fishing. They had 15 people booked on the boat, but one of the 2 engines wasn't working (they knew this ahead of time), so the Captain & his Mate got a smaller boat (one hour later). Too small for 15, which was going to be crowded for Sport Fishing on the first boat!
We already were told we would fish 10 minutes each on 2 or 3 lines at a time, and switch off. More time watching others fish! Not worth $80 per person to fish 10 minutes maybe 3 or 4 times in a 5 hour trip! We bowed out ant got our money refunded. They said we could go out the next day for half price, but that was a work day for everyone.
The Captain and his Mate were angry at Patriot Party Boats - for purposely over-booking the first boat, and finally, for not telling them about the broken engine on the first boat. What a rip-off! Patriot Party Boats has been running their fishing boats for years. They should know better than to overcrowd and overbook them. Shame on them!
If you are really interested in actually fishing this is not the trip you should take. Most of the the time you are watching other people fish. While the boat takes out 12 people only three people fish at a time so that means 75% of the time you are waiting for your next turn. You only get three, maybe four chances during the entire trip to catch the big one!
The Captain, who was very friendly, should make an attempt to maximize everyones fishing time by setting a 15 minute clock at each of the three fishing stations. If you catch a fish within that time or if the time expires you should turn the fishing rod over to the next person waiting. We had people fishing up to 45 minutes until someone asked if they could take a turn. This was very awkward and created some friction among the fishing participants. Setting the 15 minute guideline would greatly enhance everyones experience!
The boat was great!! When you are ground fishing eveyone can fish at once so there is absolutly no waiting or standing around at any time! The captains are really helpful and show you good technique. Overall i had a great experience and i will definatly go again!!
