Algiers Cafe & Restaurant
This cozy restaurant is a well-kept secret in Cambridge, and offers authentic Portuguese cuisine in a European ambience in which smoking is allowed. The extensive menu includes a variety of ethnic dishes, such as shish kabobs, cous cous, Turkish coffee, pancakes, desserts, French toast, and breakfast that is served all day long.
Nice authentic atmosphere, HOWEVER the food is mediocre and not worth what you pay for. Not just once, but every time I have gone here the service has been terrible, bordering on non existent, and the waitresses are downright rude. The mint coffee was good if you don't mind waiting 45 minutes for it to arrive. There are other better places to go in and around Cambridge.
I had their brie wrap, which is really to die for. The best in the square. No smoking makes this establishment less fun, but hey, it's not their fault. Ask for the check early, as the service is sometimes a bit slow.
My friends and I were visiting the Harvard area and needed a travel break. This place was recomended by our travel map and a local we met. It is a very nice building and cool atmosphere. Our coffee drinks were very good. Our service was not that great, we had to hunt down our server for the bill. I like coffee houses where you pay first better. But, I would definitely recomend this place, just ask for the check when you order.
