Good for Young First Timers
By JoeyMom, 08/16/09
What we liked was that it was a nice, easy boat ride for our two young children. You get off on a Assateague beach after a tour of some of the back harbors, so the boys got to see lots of boats. On the way back, there were nature things to look at, and they had some of kids volunteer to take the specimens around to the other participants for a closer look. Don't expect this to be a grand tour highlight of your adult vacation. Its a nice, easy little distraction, good for the kids. You don't go far on the island. You might see ponies, you might not, its a big island. Use the coupons in the guidebooks that are all over the place in OC. We liked it, and there were several different tours the company runs; we might try another this year.

Very Disappointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/11/09
More than 1 1/2 hour drive from our location (we were told one hour), the ponies were not available they were on round -up, very unprofesssional service, should have told us this, I asked over and over if we would see ponies, told " oh yes" my niece was so excited, we ended up with 3 very disappointed kids, and $500.00 poorer. Also the big carnival were we tried to see ponies was also over, after we were told oh yes check it out. Wasted a whole day. Don't waste your time or money.

I GOT BURNED ON ASSATEAGUE ISLAND EXPLORER
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/05/09
I thought going to Assateague would be the highlight of my vacation, but it turned out to be a boring waste of time and money. Capt. Mark and his cousin buddy are not at all professional. You need a credit card to reserve but have to pay cash when you get there. You expect to be going out on a larger tour boat, only to show up at slip 14 to a dinky pontoon boat "Misty". They neglected to tell us that this was the time of year when the ponies were rounded up and taken to auction, so there was no chance of seeing any ponies at all. All we kept hearing was, "this where the ponies usually are" or "we saw some dolphins here last week"...or "sometimes we'll see a bald eagle" !! Well, we paid alot and saw "squat" ! 39.95 + tax X 12 people !! Oh, excuse me, we saw "the house where their gran-pappy used to live" and a lighthouse "we needed binoculars to get a better look see" ! What a joke, their website and brochures are very deceiving. Trust me when I tell you, save your money. If you want to go to Assateague Island, don't go with Capt. Mark and his "cousin buddy" !!!

Service is impatient, irritable
By SaeyoungP, 07/18/09
I tried to make an appointment for a kayak tour. Their office person first tried to give me tours (earlier times) that I was not interested in and did not ask about, very eagerly took my credit card information for an afternoon tour, got irritated that I asked for directions then abruptly told me there were no spots available for the tour that I requested. Yes, the tours in the area they cover are beautiful, but that's nature, not anything that has to do with their efforts. Must have a lot of business to be able to be that rude.

Wedding
By Michael, 06/16/09
My wife and I had our wedding on the beaches of assateague. We spent our honeymoon in Berlin, Ocean City, on the islands canoeing, camping, eating. I LOVE IT. its one of the few untouched wildernesses on the east coast. I recommend it for any occasion or a inexpensive way to get away for a while.

lots of horses
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/26/07
We had a great time. I have to admit the first visit we saw very few horses that were close enough for photos but we went back on the 2nd morning and we found herds just standing around. It seemed they were everywhere. I'm glad they allow you to return many times for one price b/c honestly, I wouldn't have paid a second time to get in but since it was for a few days we thought we'd try again. Don't give up on the first visit, try again and hopefully you see them all.

Nice Trip
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/25/07
We enjoyed the slow ride out to the island and were able to see a group of ponies. Our little boy enjoyed trying to get something in his net. The only disappointment was that we were limited to how far we could explore.

Great scenery
By Michael, 08/16/06
Lots of photo opportunities. Lots of horses and deer. Great for children. It is some what expensive if you just want to go for a ride to see wild life. $10 for the national park.

A great trip! If you are alone in O.C. with a 6 yr old do this!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/24/05
Not everyone can or wants to rent a boat. This is a great adventure with small children, they love it! A perfect tour for 8 and under. They are thrilled to catch shinners & hermit crabs in a net, feel a sea star in a tupperware container and see ponies on the island. After this tour we drove to Assateague the next day, it was glorious. We wouldn't have done this if not for this "adventure".
