Not all it's trumped up to be.
By Mitch, 01/04/10
I am sure it is a beautiful place for an outdoor wedding, but if you aren't going for an event there's not really much to see or do here. The building and grounds are not that well upkept especially to other historical landmarks I've been to.

Montpelier Mansion, a National Historic Landmark, is operated as a house museum and rental facility. Select rooms have been researched and furnished as they would have appeared from the end of the 18th century until 1830. A boxwood-lined pathway runs through the garden to the original 18th century summer house. The staff, in conjunction with the Friends of Montpelier volunteer organization, offers tours, concerts, festivals, re-enactments, exhibits, lectures, and seminars. In addition, teas are offered periodically. The Little Teapot Gift Shop at Montpelier is located on-site. Montpelier Mansion is available for weddings, receptions, luncheons, and meetings. Montpelier Arts Center is a dynamic arts destination located on the grounds of historic Montpelier Mansion, providing quality visual, literary, and performing arts programs. The Arts Center houses three galleries, artist's studios, and classrooms. Exhibitions include cutting edge work as well as more traditional approaches and feature both emerging and established regional, national and international artists. The Main Gallery is also the site for the performances of the Jazz, Folk/Blues and Classical music series. The gallery is also available on a limited basis for rental by community groups. Artist studios are open to the public, and offer insight into the process of creating artwork. Classes and workshops in the visual arts are offered throughout the year.

A Piece of our Past
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/13/06
As a service member, I've lived in many places...Seoul, Rheinland-Pfalz Germany, Colorado Springs, San Antonio, El Paso, San Francisco, and, of course, Laurel, Maryland. I lived in the neighborhood surrounding the mansion and visited its grounds many times. Although there are few formal activities ongoing, it is a quaint detour from the bustle of the DC-Balto corridor. In fall, the many oak trees and handsome grounds provide a nice backdrop for a nature walk. In winter, the large field adjacent to the mansion was a popular sledding spot for the neighborhood. The mansion dates back to the Revolutionary War, and was the home and plantation of the Snowden family. George Washington stopped at the Snowden mansion several times travelling to and from Continental Congress. Although I haven't visited the area in over ten years, at the time I lived there an art school occupied one of the barns. The mansion isn't an over-developed tourist trap, but rather a quiet retreat from the otherwise hectic life of urban & suburban Maryland. It's the perfect place for a picnic lunch and stroll...
