National Museum of Civil War Medicine
Exhibits illustrating the story of the patients, caregivers, and medical innovations of the American Civil War and a rare collection of over 2,000 Civil War medical artifacts can be found at this museum. Educational tours, special events, an annual conference, and a museum store are also featured.
Recently visited the Civil War medicine museum, and was somewhat disappointed. Although the exhibits were interesting, the museum was rather small, and essentially very vague on the topic of Civil War Medicine. I also felt admission was a little high.
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine numbers among the top attractions in historic Frederick. Located downtown just across the street from the famous 1920 Deli, the Museum traces through a series of excellent exhibits major developments in the practice of military medicine during the American Civil War. Learn, for example, that in this conflict disease killed more soldiers in camp than bullets dispatched in combat. The Museum store offers a wide range of gift and excellent selection of books.
