Best kept secret in the Northern Bay
By First L, 12/05/05
I was a new Boater about two years ago, My family and I bought a Bayliner and were looking for a place close enough to home (Pennsylvania). I also had to be on the Chesapeake, family vacations to the bay in my younger years made me nostalgic for the area.
I was on the web looking for Marinas, and even went canvasing northern Maryland on my days off from work looking for a suitable area. I found Locust Point Marina on a search website under "Elk River Pumpout Stations" I called and just by sheer luck they had a slip for a 25 ft Express Cruiser.
I just finished my second full season there, and I have never been more satisfied or more content with my level of service.
The area and the atmosphere are clean and friendly. I was stand offish at first, meeting new people is not exaclty my forte,
But I since have made friends there for life, and many (including the Marina owners) have been helpfull and full of information in answering my questions about boat/engine service to basic navigation.
Locust Point Marina is not out of the way either. Locust Point is just 6-7 nautical miles north of the Baltimore/Phila shipping channel and the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, giving you ample access to both the Delaware or the Chesapeake Bays, or just follow the shipping channel to Baltimore.
Amendities at the Marina also include ice, showers, bathrooms, waste water pumpout and ships store. Water and Power are also included in the annual fee for boats. (many other Marinas in Maryland charge extra for both Water and shore power).
In summary Locust Point Marina IS the best kept secret in Maryland, I recommend any boater new or with 50+ years on the water to seriously take a look at it for a future stay or as a permenant mooring for your boat.
Fees are minimal and reasonable, docking and facilites are clean and reliable. Owners are nice, congenial, and approachable and ready to answer any questions, or help you out in a pinch. But don't take my word for it find out yourself.
