I used to love going into this store. Plenty of interesting, and useful, antiques. Friendly atmostphere. Not any longer.
I purchased several items the other day, thoroughly checking them out. I mean thoroughly. Got the one piece home and it was impregnated with mold. I don't know why I couldn't smell it at the store. There was even visible, yellow, puffy mold on the bottom. I spent three hours cleaning it, thinking they couldn't possible sell something that wouldn't clean up. I was wrong.
The owner of the business said he would return the money. He came to pick up the piece, and not once, not once did he say he was sorry about this - he went on about "old furniture" and all that. Well, honey, you do NOT put moldy furniture into a shop like this. It is not a barn. I told him, too, that there was another piece there that had very visible mold. He didn't respond. This was all balanced by saying how much I enjoyed shopping there, and had never had other than good experiences. Not a word from him, and the attitude that this was buyer's remorse.
Wouldn't YOU be saying, "I won't have anything like this in my shop? It got by me? I'm so sorry." And, maybe offer to give a discount on the next attempt. No. He doesn't care. There are always other unsuspecting customers.
